Swapping 20's for 17's
I would like to swap my stock 20's with 17's (or 16's if they would fit). I tow a travel trailer and the rpm's are good through 3rd gear (in tow/haul mode), but as soon as it switches to 4th gear, I lose all my torque as my rpm's drop to 2000 at hwy speed. How many rpm's would I gain by switching to 17's. Yes, I've heard all the hype about towing with a diesel rather than a gasser, but that's out of the question for now. The hemi would climb a tree if the bark didn't slip. I have the factory towing pkg with the 3.92 LSD. Anyone willing to swap their 17's for my 20's "even steven"? Comments?
hey sgt., you should post this elsewhere, as most people looking here are asking for tiretrack help. Although, maybe tiretrack will do something for you with regards to an answer to swapping down, but as for trades, that is usually, better to post in other group forums.
It's definitely wheel and tire related, so you're welcome to keep it here. If you'd like me to move the post to another section of the forum, as god_complx suggested, let me know and I will. Double posting is frowned on though, so if you want it in a different forum, don't re-post, just have this one moved.

Something you might want to look at is if the brake calipers rub on the wheels, by decreasing the size of the wheel you run the risk of rubbing on the caliper or other suspension parts.
these tire info/calculator sites might help too

daytona, I currently have 275/60/20 on my truck. I'm swapping with 265/70/17. The difference in diameter is 1.4" with an increase of approx 140 rpm. If I decide to put 245/70/17, my diameter difference is 2.5" and an increase of approx 260 rpm. The rubber on the 17's are practically brand new. I will try the 265's first. If I'm not satisfied with the performance, I'll switch to the 245's.
