This week’s Mopar Muscle Thursdays feature looks at an older Dodge Viper RT/10 in action on the drag strip against a newer Ford Mustang GT with the 5.0L V8 that I would guess is a 2011 model year car. Nothing is known about these two cars shy of the obvious so we don’t know what kind of work has been done to these two American performance cars but we do know that this race takes place at Albuquerque National Dragway where the density altitude is around 7,000 feet. For those of you who arent familiar with the impact of altitude on combustion engines, altitude like that is bad for performance and track times due to the thin air.
Even with the thin air, it looks as though the 2011 Ford Mustang GT in this video could use a little better driver as he only managed to run a 14.13 at 108 miles per hour while the Dodge Viper RT/10 Roadster ran 12.90 at 110. Based on those trap speeds, I would guess that the Mustang still would have had a tough time besting the Viper but the wheelspin at the line allows this healthy sounding Viper to pound the late model Ford muscle car.
