you posted this in the wrong section, it needs to be in the 1st generation section, as is stated in the STICKY thread entitled Please Read BEFORE Posting in this section!, i will move it for you this time

I believe you are looking for the wrong transfer case. The first generation used the NV242 not the 244. Make sure this is what transfer case you have though.

the t case i pulled has 244 on the badge, and I'm also told that the 242 is the (2wd 4hi 4lo) and that the 244 is the (awd 4hi 4lo) which is what I have

Incorrect,

In the 1998-1999 there was the NV242HD. Later they pulled it from the market. The NV242HD was a Part Time style T-case with an extra position but was short lived.

In 2000-2003 the R/T model came standered with a 5.9L and NV244.

The NV244 is a AWD transfer case that replaced the older NV242HD.

Anyway, you can check the junk yards or google them, finding one may prove hard to do as they only came in the R/T version.

I am unsure of the compatability between the 1st and 2nd generations. I would simply call a dealer and ask if they are the same part number or simply look at Auto ZOne or other for the same part number. Here it says it will however:
