Default Hub Nut Size

I'm going to replace shoes and drum for a 96 Neon SOHC. Does anybody have the size of the hub nut? I'm going to rent the socket from Auto Zone, and would like to get the right size socket.

Thanks for the help.

You don't need to remove the hub to change out the pads and drum.

But popping off the brake drum can be a real PITA. Make sure you don't have your parking brake on[:@]

Try taking anything off that hasn't been before and is put under alot of stress and heat. If may just fall off, who knows.

just spray some penetrating oil around the studs and wack the **** outta the drum, if you still cant get it off, try adjusting the brakes looser. that should do it. anyway, getting the drum off is the easiest part, if you can't do that, then you prolly can't figure out how to get the brakes installed. dont take both sides apart at the same time. that way you can use the other side for a refference, for when you get confused, cuz you will.

Replaced both drums and shoes ...1st wheel took about 1 1/2 hours...mostly because I put the automatic adjuster on the wrong way. 2nd wheel about 30-40 minutes. Actually, it was pretty easy. Thank goodness for needle nose vise grips, however. Drums came off with a minimum of banging on them.
