1st gen gauge cluster repair

erratic instrument cluster operation
OK, I'm convinced. After reading this thread i am going out right now to yank out the instrument clutser and have a look at the solder joints. Been there often enough for other electrical issues, I can do it in my sleep now. I've been driving it with the speedo, temp, fuel gauges and airbag light jumping around and truning on and off spastically, on occasion. Evreytime they acted up a good thwack on the front clear plastic of the gauge panel has done the trick.
Time to fix it and maybe it will also correct an intermittant fuel pump related problem that has recently developed in my '99 SOHC 1st GEN.
Keeping my fingers crossed.

i just finished fixing this problem with my neon its a little complicated to explain but it did fix it.
first take out the guage cluster and take of the black particle board sortof gasket material and if you look at it youll see pins sticking out the back end of it in groups of for the pins are surrouned by little tabs if you pinch those tabs to give a better conncetion that should fix it if not then it could be a lose wire or a problem with the sensor but if its a sensor then you check engine light will be on and tell you
