The thing you gotta be careful of with the portable mounts on the receiver hitch is that it really limits your angle of approach being that low. I always try to be aware of that thing being so low and so far out in front when I'm in my Grand Cherokee and I have the winch on.
AND REMEMBER: That whole setup is only as strong as the pin, don't cheap out and use a $2 pin to hold it in there!

Thanks for the advice.....at the price i paid for it, I am well aware of where it is at all times. I think for the most part I will have it strapped down in the box of the truck untill i need it, as I have run another power lead to the rear of the truck so I can use it in the back as well. I bought a locking pin to use with the winch and for my hitch for when I'm hauling my camper so nobody takes my dropdown hitch or my new winch without a cutting torch.

Yep, mine lives in my garage when I'm in Florida and if I take the Jeep up to the farm it rides in the back. Don't need 100+ lbs. hanging off the front of the thing all the time on a daily driver.
I haven't run any power wires to the rear of the Jeep and don't really plan to, but I have run a set to the back of my truck, gettin' old and lazy and figured it be nice to winch my john boat or bass/hunter up the slick clay banks of Georgia without having to turn the truck around twice, LOL...
I've posted it before on here, but I made myself a little light bar to slide in the receiver hitch when the winch ain't on there. Had all of about $20 in materials in it plus lights...
