2001 dodge durango 4.7 engine
I have a 2001 4.7 engine in my durango and i was wondering if i can change it out with a 5.9 engine and how much work would it be. I have had nothing but troble with the 4.7 the oil pump keeps going out and now it has caused engine failure. So if any one can help with this question please email me at (jaycampbellpa@yahoo.com) or leave a post on this site tahnk you

this needs to be in the 1st generation section, i will move it for you
and ill answer your question, in order to to an engine swap from the 4.7 to the 5.9 you will need the following (at a minimum)
1) engine,
2) transmission
3) wire harness
4) PCM
5) i believe the engines use different mounts, so you need to figure that out too.
and about your oil pump problems, have you been keeping up w/ oil changes? have you been putting in new pumps? i only ask bc iv kept up w/ my maintance and have had exactly 0 issues out of my 4.7, and i have almost 100k miles on it already

Yes, you would be better off buying another 4.7 rather than doing a swap. To do a swap you would need to re-do everything that shrp stated. Also, it's not a task for the weak as it will be extremely time consuming and not to mention will kill your wallet at the end of the day.
I'd just do a rebuild of your current engine from top down and ensure everything is working as it should before you dub it as your everyday vehicle.

If they are willing to pick up 80% of the tab then let em have at it. I would probably suspect that it will be a rebuild on your current engine or if Mopar new engine than probably another 4.7 If you kept receipts and showed the proper oil changes then it sounds like that little step paid off. Are they doing 80% of rebuilt engine or 80% of a MOPAR NEW engine long block?

Probably rebuilt. I don't see a dealership picking up that much of a tab on a full engine replacement job with a brand new Mopar crate. I had to do this the other day at work and took me and a couple other guys an entire work day to do it.
Also, they're picking up that much of the tab of swapping in a new 4.7 or swapping over to a 5.9? Either way make sure, you get everything in writing with a signature at the bottom!
