Hi,

Do You have or know where can I find some tips to increase the MpG on a Dakota 2001 4.7 V8 2WD.?

I heard that some guy, here in Mexico, modify the Diferential, change the gear, to increase the MpG, maybe You heard about this.

I'll appreciate Your help

 

there are some but it is only a little like a cold air intake and such like that. I have not heard about a guy changing his gear ratios, the only thing that i can think of why he would change them is for instance if you are on the highway and you have a 4:10 gear ratio you are going to have a bad gas rating opposed to a 3:75 gear ration the ratio makes the engine spin a little slower not making the engine work as hard. The only real way to is not puch it out the gate slowly excelerate. these are trucks and they are heavy and you have a V8 that is kinda how it is. Good luck.

 

another thing would be to know what ur getting most pple dont get more than 15 around town and 18 on the highwya im one of the lucky ones lol
i get 17 around town and over 20 highway

 

intake and exhaust, not to big of a pipe size, and stay out of it also the superchips gave me like 2-4 and a lot more low end power. if you have 3.92's in the rear if you goto 3.55's or maybe a size lower it will get better mpg on the highway but have no ***** low down and get **** in the city, i've found the 3.92's in mine with 31 inch tires are like the perfect for city and hw.

i got 19.4 first tank i filled up after the superchips and that was with beating it the first day i had it on there then a 150 mile round trip from williamsport to bloomsburg, im thinkin i can get at least 22 on my way home from school next time.

Cold Air Intake ..... this is because air intake systems don't improve MPG.
If you don't understand this,
study how a throttle works,
what MAP means,
and what engineers mean by "Pumping Losses".
If you understand Intake Pumping Losses you will also understand why MDS was put on the 5.7 Hemi V8s.

Notice how by adding
low rolling resistance tires,
then aerodynamic tweaks,
they follow up by adding a 6 speed transmission
and either 3.06 to 3.15 rear differential ratios.

 

one thing that has helped me out was tire pressure. truck door jam say 35 psi, but the tire says max 44 psi. i went in between and hit 40 psi. you can definitly feel the difference in the rolling resistance.

 

I put mine to 40psi, use synthetic fluids, keep my foot out of it and turn OFF the O/D in zones 40mph and under. On the highway, I notice my best MPG rating is between 64-67mph.
I get 18/22.5mpg now.
