Default Trouble restarting after rebuild

1996 Ram V6 3.9 liter - completely stock. Rebuilt, installed new heads, .020 over pistons, new bearings, etc.

Can get truck started and running, but only with some throttle applied, timing seems ok but does not want to idle. trouble getting it started without applying some gas/opening throttle body. New O2 sensors, exhaust, plugs, wires, distributor, fuel injector (one), and a host of other parts. Runs rough, seems to lack throttle response when/if running in garage with no load.

Any ideas welcome

make sure dist is tight and in position...
lol had a cust. do same thing and brought it in and come to find out dist was left loose and moved just a little bit to make it barely run...
if u have access to a DRBIII or snap-on scanner you can look at "Sync State" and see where timing is sitting with cam and crank sensors

Thanks, keep them coming!

Will check over the weekend, but the cam timing has been checked and is correct. Also, there is an intake manifold connection that has nothing connected to it and was not capped/nor did if have anything connected when the engine was running and disassembled. Will cap.

One thing i noticed is there is no idle adjustment screw on this motor - how is the idle adjusted?

Also, shouldn't TPS trip the computer (i.e. when i use a scan tool it will tell me it's TPS)? otherwise, how to check?

Thanks

Your Evap Purge Solenoid might be routed backwards. When I rebuilt my 5.2L, I didn't think I matters which port the Evap line from the charcoal canister was routed as well as the line from the throttle body. Turns out that it does matter, as my idle was affected, but cruising was OK.

welcome to DF... there is a procedure somewhere to change the idle setting, it's controlled by the IAC which is a stepper motor. your problem is probably the fuel sync... rotate the dist some in one direction or the other until it runs good enought to get it set.
