So in the attached pic, you can see both ports, fairly close to each other. I should've taken pics before we started working, but didn't of this part. Why should I when the air hat is common sense? Apparently I have no common sense. Lesson learned. Can you tell me which port the driver's side valve cover hose should attach to? Does something else attach to the other one? I'm not used to seeing open ports on my truck, and it makes me think I'm missing something, unless this air hat is not for my model/year.

Hose goes on the one it fits nice. The other one on my truck has a cap on it.

Fits both ports well. I tried both, and the engine doesn't sound any different.

They're both plumbed to the same place anyway: The plenum (meaning the big open space inside the intake manifold, not the pan on the bottom of it which is sometimes mistakenly called the plenum).

All such ports that don't have hoses or caps on them are vacuum leaks, so cap those that aren't used.

I plugged the port not being used, and got a code. On black friday, I bought a live-read scanner from harbor freight and tried it on my truck. The code P1294 says "target idle not reached." My live data shows rpms as 862. What is normal? What should I do to get this right?

Should also tell you what target idle is, as that changes depending on conditions. When fully warmed, in gear, idle should be right about 700 RPM. If it's higher, you probably have a vacuum leak, or a failing IAC.
