RE: can you put a turbo on a 4 cylinder?
Yes. Alot of modern 4 cyl engines (Crank, Block & Head) can take quite a bit of abuse. How much boost a particular engine can run depends on what it is and what's been done to it. Typically to run any decent amount of boost, the engine needs to be rebuilt with forged components (rods & pistons). Other engines come from the factory pretty beefy, like the SRT-4 2.4L I4; I'm running 20psi of boost daily on my stock engine.

The engine has been rebuilt but not with any peformence parts.
it was a sitting junk when I got it. now its been rebuilt and it has a few sqeaks here and there.

A turbo wont help you that terribly much on take off.... turbo lag will knock out the jump youre looking for.
I have a 2.5 dakota as well, Im looking into turbo-charging my truck with an older turbo off a used chrysler or dodge car. Ive been told that the leBaron turbos need the minimal fabrication to work and that the daytonas may work too. It ought to be a pretty interesting project.
If youre looking to just give it a little help you should make yourself a custom intake or you can buy one for a lot more. maybe exhaust as well.
I just sea foamed my motor and the difference is unbelievable. it runs so smooth and so much quicker so you could try that too..
I resurrected my truck too, the guy before me didnt take any care of it. but im slowly fixing her up

It all depends on the size of the turbocharger. The larger they are the more power they produce, but the slower they are to build power. The smaller they are the lower the power they produce, but the quicker they start producing it. That is why the SRT-4's have such a problem trying to launch during a race or even just spirited driving, their small turbocharger brings on the power so quick that they usually just melt the tires. The only problem with the small turbocharger is it's limited power building potential, the SRT-4's stock turbo is only good for 300+ horsepower. To get more out of it you need to put on a bigger turbo which will make more power yet be less responsive.
