Default Overhead light

Why does my driver side overhead light stay on while driving but will go off when stopped and fade away after about 20 minutes ?

Hi Auggie,

The light should not be staying on as you've described. Has your Dodge dealership addressed this for you at any point?

What year is your Durango? Is there any indication of a door ajar in the information center when driving?

Try the "interior light brightness" vertical "wheel" next to your headlight control on the dash (below and to the left of your steering column). There is a setting that turns on the interior lights...providing you have them switched on...and it sounds like you do have that particular overhead light switched on (press it to switch it off). (I believe if you spin that wheel all the way down it clicks into that setting.) Just spin it up a bit and you should deactivate that.

If you want to turn on the cabin lights that can be a handy thing, but aggravating if you don't know it's there.

Rolling the wheel all the way UP will pop into a detent that locks the interior lights on, one step down will leave the interior lights in (door/manual switch mode), rolling further down through the interior cluster brightness levels will end with a final detent that disables the interior lights on with door open function

Ok, so I get into the truck and all the overhead dome lights come on. I close the door and they all stay on for around 20 t0 30 sec. and then they all go off. I am thinking hey it fixed itself. I start the engine and the lower driver side dome light comes on and stays on ?? Anyone ?

Have you had your Visor recall done yet? The S-71 ? The visors are a direct output of the cluster like the rest of the dome lamps. If something is shorting, it can cause some nutty BS.

After reading comments on this post, it got me thinking about a problem I am experiencing with my '11 Durango (Crew). I had the visor recall done recently and now can not control my interior lights or dash lights using the thumb wheel on the lower left dash next to light switch. The thumb wheel now does not adjust the light intensity on the dash or turn on the overhead lights. The dash lights are stuck in the night time dim mode when the headlights are on and the overhead lights work when doors open, etc, but the thumbwheel controls nothing anymore. The visor lights work as before the recall was done. Makes me think that this issues is a direct cause of the visor safety recall "fix". Anyone else experiencing a problem like this?
