Check engine light - code P0524 low oil pressure on 07 Ram 1500 Hemi
Hey People, Anyone ever get the check engine light code P0524 for low oil pressure? I have had it 3 times now since I got the truck new almost a year ago. It has 20000km, the oil level is good, oil just changed and the gauge on the dash reads a little over the half way point. When the CEL comes on, the truck has been running for about half an hour (fully warmed up) and idling in gear at the stop light. The freeze frame data on the code reader shows normal engine temp, RPM at about 650 and no other codes in memory. The truck engine management stays in closed loop mode too. Since I have a code reader, I just reset the light myself. Should I be overly concerned? Should I bring it to the dealer so that they can address this? Truck is running fineotherwise. ANY thoughts???
Thanks

RE: Check engine light - code P0524 low oil pressure on 07 Ram 1500 Hemi
I have a 2007 Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi with 12735 miles. Mine has done it twice since having my oil changed this week at a Valvoline drive thru. They put in Synthetic 5W20(told me it was recommended - yeah cost more). I spoke with the Service Manager at my Dealer and he said the Synthetic oil can cause this because it is thinner. I am going to drain the Synthetic 5W20 this weekend and use regular 5W20, clear the code and see what happens. The Service Manager also said the next time I bring in the truck they will flash the PCM.

I had this happen also, first time today. Wife reported Check Engine when she brought the truck
back. My Innova 3100 scanner can't read the Dodge OBD-II for whatever reason, but I was
able to get the code (P0524) via ElmScan. Due for an oil change anyways, so I'll try
switching from the synthetic we've been using and see if that helps. Same gage reading
in my case - a bit over half on the pressure gage, with the dipstick showing normal
oil level. I see on the 2008 Ram there is a TSB about this.
(can't help but editorialize: dealers gotta love CheckEngine :-) )

rick_sCould you put a link to that recall, can't find it. My oil pressure sure move on the gauge. Highway/normal driving siiting just above Half way point. Idle at any time at the bottom of safe zone. Has done it since new. Two other friends with 07 don't do this so needs to be addressed at the dealer I guess.

We were due for an oil change anyways, but it didn't help. I get P0524 immediately after I
reset the code. Truck goes into the dealer tomorrow AM, I'll ask them to reflash
when it's in the shop.
About the TSB I saw, here is the link:
http://db.theautochannel.com/db/DodgeReviews/safety.php
Scroll down the page to 2008 Dodge RAM 1500, you'll see the
bulletin there (1804407). I'm thinking the firmware probably didn't
change much between 2007/2008, so I have to wonder whether
this is a problem common to both years.
Question for the group. I remember going to the Dodge site and downloading the service
manual pdf when we first got the truck. Now when I go to the same page, it shuffles
me off to some site that wants me to pay for the manual. Was the "free" pdf manual
just a dream, or did Dodge decide to bang us DIY types? I mean, its really old to
have to pay for a CD copy of a manual, or worse, for the paper copy....
6/16/2008: a bit of followup after getting the truck back. The final diagnosis for
the P0524 code was "bad EGR valve". Does this make sense?
