Default 2004 Ram remote entry key fob

I have looked everywhere and can not find an answer. I need to program a couple new key fobs for a 2004 Ram, I do not have a working fob. The only answer I can find says to jump pin 1 to pin 4, but there is nothing on pin 1 so this does nothing. Surely someone has the answer to this common problem.

You need one working FOB to program another one. If you don't have a working FOB, then they have to be programmed by the dealer or locksmith.

There is a proceedure out there to put it in program mode using a wire jumped between pin 1 and pin 4 on the DLC. But the 2004 has nothing connected to pin 1, so this proceedure does nothing. It appears to work for some, but not 2004. So, there has to be a proceedure for 2004 also. I am not taking it to a dealer and getting ripped off.

Sorry, never heard of that. This is from the owners manual:

Programming Additional Transmitters
Vehicles with the keyless entry option will be shipped
from the assembly plants with two key fob transmitters
programmed only for that vehicle.Atotal of four fobs can
be programmed for your vehicle. Additional fobs can be
programmed to your vehicle through the use of a currently
programmed fob.

NOTE:
When entering program mode using that fob,
ALL currently programmed fobs will be erased and you
will have to reprogram them for your vehicle. However,
if program mode is entered and no action is performed,
the previously programmed fobs will continue to function.
1. Enter your vehicle and close all doors.
2. Fasten your seat belt (fastening the seat belt will cancel
any chiming that may confuse you during this programming
procedure).
3. Place the key into the ignition.
4. Turn the ignition to the ON position (

Do not start the
engine

).
5. Press and hold the UNLOCK button on a programmed
(i.e. functional) key fob.
6. Continue to hold the UNLOCK button, wait at least 4
seconds, but no longer than 10 seconds, then press and
hold the PANIC button.
7. When a single chime is heard, release both buttons.
The chime indicates that the system is in program mode.
8. Press and release both the LOCK and UNLOCK
buttons, simultaneously on the fob to be programmed.
9. A single chime will be heard. The chime indicates that
the fob has been recognized.
10. Within 4 seconds of hearing the chime, press and
release any button on the fob being programmed

So unless you have a working FOB, you are SOL. Maybe you should call the dealer and ask how much they would charge before automatically assuming you would be ripped off.

This is the answer I keep finding, but on the 2004 there is nothing connected to pin 1, so this will not work.

1) Turn ignition to OFF.
2) Locate the Data Link Connector, its a black 16 pin connecter that is under the driver's side dash, right where your right knee would be.
3) Ground pin 1 of the Data Link Connector by taking a wire or paper clip and running it from pin 1 to pin 4. Pin 4 is ground so you can just short pin 1 to 4 and it will be grounded. Grounding pin 1 tells the system you are ready to reprogram it.
4) Close all of your doors.
5) Turn the key to ACC then back off. The door locks will lock/unlock. This is the signal that the system is ready for reprogramming.
6) Push a button on your remote, doesn't matter which button.
7) If you have 2 remotes, then press a button on the 2nd remote within 1 minute of pressing a button on the 1st remotes. Both must be programmed at the same time. If you only have 1 remote then press a button 2 more times to signal that you only have one.
8) The doors will lock/unlock to signal the codes were received.
9) Remove the jumper wire from the data connector

I dont know where you are getting that from. If you google "2004 dodge ram fob programming", every hit says you must have one working FOB to program any others. Even the owners manual says it. If there is nothing connected to pin 1, then, well. Anyway, good luck.

I just went threw this. Dealer has to program at least 1 fob if you don't have any already programmed to the truck. I tried all the other tricks/methods, and also tried using Snapon/Autel scanners I have avalible and in the end ended up going to dealer

Are you anywhere near MD? I have a DRBIII, if you're around I'll do it for you.
