Ignition key switch wiring colors

Default Ignition key switch wiring colors

I need to know what wires go to what on my 1st generation dakota. It is the 7 pin plug i am trying to wire in a new aftermarket ignition switch for it and need to know what colors are what.

The yellow wire is currently ran to a toggle switch ik that is the acc power wire

this had the diagram I needed but now I need to know if I need to run a ground to wrap around my new universal key switch i am going to be hard wiring into my harness


So far i have the red, dark blue, yellow, and pink/black wires ready to hookup but idk which spot to put them someone please help me get my daily back up and going

I don't think the ignition switch grounds anything. It simply provides power to various places, depending on key position.

if you look at the schematics diagram there it says the system is ground through steering column attachment and im tapping into the stock harness so I just want to make sure I don't need to run a ground

The switch completes circuits for power on the supply side. It won't hurt anything to ground the body of the switch, but, I really don't think it is necessary.

is there anyway you could tell me what wires would go where on the switch

I have no idea which terminals do what on the switch itself. Why not just replace the failed switch?? Would be a lot easier I would think.
