Inetermittent AC problem
Noticed today my AC started blowing out side ambient temp every now and then specifically when I was stationary. So popped the hood and saw the compressor switching in and out fine, lots of condensation on the AC pipes near bulk head as per usual
However I saw a line from the compressor going to the top of a smaller radiator looking thing that sites next to the cooling system radiator, which also has a smaller electric fan on. The fan was stationary but to touch the radiator thing was quite hot, so I got a hammer and gently tapped the fan motor housing and it slowly spun but dies again. does this have anything to do with cooling the AC if so what's the fan called
Thanks

100% sure it's your fan.
Typical that poor AC happens at idle, when there is no/little air flow over the AC condenser radiator.
This improves when the truck starts to move, as air is forced over the rad and cools the refrigerant.
These electric motors have brushed contacts inside.
These do wear out.
Typically, the fans either stop intermittently as yours have and will usually restart if you tap the casing with the butt of a large screwdriver/hammer shaft etc.
Another thing these fans do is, over time and with the wear of these brushes, the motor decreases in torque and cannot pull the air over the AC condenser radiator efficiently. This also causes poor AC especially at idle.
I rebuilt my motor by fitting new brushes which I re-lapped into shape and fitted. Going strong now for over 8+ years.
They are available on ebay cheap enough.
BTW there is also no need to evacuate the AC when fitting it.
Hope this helps?
