Default Ram engine surges and dies

I have an 04 hemi ram, if you are driving at any speed under 45mph the engine constantly surges a few hundred rpms, it will surge probably 4 or 5 times in a mile. this happens only at a light throttle when you are just crusing at a constant speed.

It has died on me a few times when slowing down for a red light or stop, and will fire rite back up everytime. when slowing down (off the throttle) if it surges the rpms will drop too below 500rpm on the tach, some times it will recover its self or i can blip the throttle and save it or it will die.

Truck runs fine on interstate or any speeds above 55mph, still runs strong at WOT.

There are no codes or CEL

check your throttle body for carbon buildup, just take off ur "hemi hat" 4 bolts and a plug, and look and see, and if its bad just pull it off, another 4 bolts and a plug, and get some throttle body cleaner and a clean rag and spray it out and wipe up the grim, also unplug the battery while ur doing this to reset the PCM, hopefully this helps

thanks for the tips, i searched for a while and figured i would start with a tb cleaning and reset the ecm.

Took the throttle body off and there was a good ammount of baked on build-up behind the blade, cleaned it all up and reset the ecm, and it is a lot better, i would say 95% of the problem is gone.

I drove for around 30 min in stop and go traffic and the engine didnt die or even act like it wanted too, but there is still a faint surge at low speeds, 20-35mph it is constant, not as bad as before and dosent seem to surge as bad on the tach. before it was very noticeable, say 300 rpm now mabey 100 rpm.

I going to drive it the rest of the week and see how it goes, its atleast safe to drive now.

gator72106, any thoughts about the throttle-position sensor should be checked?

I would go there next. Any codes showing?

also, How is the condition of your catalytic converter as for being partially plugging?

well i read alot about the egr and it causing similar problems like i was having as far as surging and stalling.

Took the egr off and took it completely apart using directions off of dodge talk fourm, in 3rd gen how too section

cleaned it very well put everything back together, then i put some jumper wires to the bottom two prongs on the egr connector while it was off the truck to make sure it was actuating, then went for a drive and everything as of now is fine, it never surged and never died.

I guess between the TB being dirty and the egr being dirty was my problem, the truck had been surging for quite a while and i should have done this earlier. BTW there were never any codes or CEL recently, a few months ago there was a cel but it went off and i never thought anymore about it.

The TB and EGR are too BIGGIES and the TB at least, isn't talked about at all as part of a maintenance item by Dodge and I don't think I've ever seen it referenced in an owner's manual.

If you have an EGR system, ('03s and 2500s do not) then I'd clean the TB every 15k miles, otherwise 30k.

I just replaced my EGR when I hit 50k. No CEL light yet, but I wasn't gonna wait any longer for one. 50k is enough on an original EGR valve, most people get a CEL before that...

Default 17 codes for 04 durango

I'm new to this forum and have somewhat of a major problem. The motor of this 04 Durango (Hemi) blew same day it was purchased from Mannheim. Bought a rebuilt motor and replaced.
Well, drove nice for about 3 weeks, replaced oil as recommended. Engine started stalling and shutting down while driving. I cleaned the Throtle body as it had a lot of grease and oil.
Now I have 17 codes. Truck is still stalling, shutting down and having the lightening light on the dash.

CODES
  1. P061C
  2. P0344
  3. P0652
  4. P2127
  5. P1628
  6. P0405
  7. P0129
  8. P2138
  9. P0016
  10. P0340
  11. P1684
  12. P0932
  13. P0129
  14. P0016
  15. P0405
  16. P0344
  17. P0340

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
