Default 95 Dodge 70s 360 5 speed swap wont engage starter when key is on

1995 Dodge Ram 1500 4wd that has been 75 model 360 swapped with a 99 nv3500 and transfer case. I have non of the exhisting wiring harness besides the harness that is connected to the dash, fusebox, battery and headlights. The starter will not engage. I have the brown wire that goes to the factory harness and the red wire going to the battery like factory. It will not engage the starter from the key. but if i tap the brown wire on the red fuse box wire it engages the starter. What did i wire wrong and how can i get it to start from the key?

Was the harness originally from a manual trans truck? Or automatic?

Normally the starter relay ground is going through the neutral safety switch. So ground the wire directly. If you don't have a clutch safety switch the truck will crank in gear so be careful.

Edited for clarity

Down on the trans, right below the shift linkage. Likely a three wire connector. Should be black wire, with white trace.

If you have the power distribution center, which is where the starter relay should be..... the wire in question comes from the starter relay socket, and runs down to the switch on the trans. Of course, you don't HAVE that switch.....So, that part of the harness could be anywhere at this point.

And if you have the power distribution center (PDC), you could just ground the approriate relay pin to the nearby ground location. Relay pin is either 85 or 86.

Check for voltage at the starter on the little wire to the solenoid, with the key in the start position. (you can disconnect the wire for the test, just make sure it doesn't ground out somewhere.)
