New truck exhaust question.
Alright guys, I just traded in on an 09 Dodge Ram with the 5.7l Hemi. My question is, if I cut the muffler off and run a Y pipe to the tips that are already on it, I know it will sound good but here is the thing. It has the deal where it likes to shut off some cylinders to save fuel. Would it be worth getting some exhaust work done to sound good or would the cylinder shutoff ruin it and make it go from sounding mean to sounding like a rice burner?

You can also just manually shift your transmission to 6th gear, or hit Tow/Haul mode. Those will will disable MDS, but every time you go to park you need to reshift into 6th, and every time you start your truck you'll need to hit Tow/Haul. Neither of those options are difficult but personally I got tired of having to do it every single time I got in my truck.

Also when it shuts half the cylinders off, I thought that only happens on the highway?? Mine shows that it's kicking in and out of it all the time based on how much the peddle is pressed? So with it firing half the cylinders and shutting them off all the time, is this normal and is it hard on anything?? I am sorry, I am new to this technology on cylinder shutoff.

What makes you think that? If you're referring to the ECO display, that simply means you're driving in a fuel efficient manner and doesn't directly indicate the status of the Multi Displacement Shutoff (Cyclinder Deactivation). It's completely normal, Dodge has been using this system for some time now. By now I expect they'd have any kinks worked out.
