Default 2500 or 3500 ??"s

OK here is a question for the folks that know more than me

I am looking to buy a new truck,(gas 6.4) and have owned several dodge ram 2500''s over the yrs
SO I am again going to buy a dodge,
but undecided on buying another 2500 or a 3500
what are the difference's between the two
MINUS the extra 500 lb payload deal
are there different axle's, brake's, trans gearing
OR is all the difference only really in HD springs to a point??

I have heard rumors that 3500's have less emissions, thus make more useable power??
any truth to this?
the price is only about 2k difference
so wondering if there are any added benefits to going to a 1 ton over a 3/4 ton??

it is a work truck more or less, so not worried about the ride difference, as I honestly don't think its much??
thanks for any help clearing the difference's up

2500 and 3500 SRW dodge trucks really dont have much differences at all, the springs are a bit heavier on the 3500 and slightly rougher ride, some clearence lights, gearing usually a little lower on the 3500, a heavier weight rating, and here in CA its also a decent jump in registration costs, thats about it, the emmissions are the same

Trucker75 is correct, it should be just the springs. When I had my F350 I learned that my yoke had more splines on it making he driveline a little stronger than the F250, but that was a Ford thing. Who knows, maybe it's a Ram thing too.

Payload is it... There's no difference to the motor, driveline, etc... unless you go diesel. Then there is a transmission option for the 3500 only that yields a few more ponies.

However, the payload is usually pretty significant. I just traded a '13 2500 for a '14 3500 due to fifth wheel pin weight issues. Sure, the 2500 will do it, but you'll be over weight for sure (GVWR). My figures are all for the diesel, I know the Hemi is a bit lighter, giving it more payload capability.

Best of luck... but if there's a question, I would go 3500. Better to have more than you need then not enough.

Thanks Guys for all the info so far
NOW things I THINK I know
ALL the 3500's are still leaf spring axles, NO coils there yet, so that is a difference
doesn't bother me at all LOL
I called my insurance guy today, and YES the insurance was a LITTLE lower, 25 bucks a yr difference, so, again no big deal there
I know the tags/plates costs will be higher every yr, but again not a ton, I think its 58 bucks mroe than a 2500!

NOW I have looked at many sites digging for info
all I can tell is gearing is all the same on the trans and drive line
you can pick betweem 3.73 and 4.10 on the 3500's(hemi's) so no difference there either
all that is about all I can really find out
sticker price will be about $1,500.00 difference
so, again NOT a big difference, but since the last 7 or 2500's did all I want, I think I will stick with a 2500, as I don't seen any gains in any place that matters to me .
IF it had a beffier trans, rear/axles, brakes, I say OK< maybe having bigger stronger etc/ is worth the addeed costs
as I don't tow enough to justify the added costs of a 3500, and if I did, I wouldn't be going Gas any how! be doing a diesel for sure..
SO looks like in the near future I will be getting another 2500
ALSO< something I did find out or was told by several dodge dealers
ONLY difference between a 2014 and a 2015 is power mirors??
so they didn't do anything to the truck from 14 to 15!

and MAYBE they don't offer the leaf srping axle on a gas anymore, but cannot confirm this as NOT a single dodge dealer I contacted could answer that question, seems they didn't even know they changed the rear to coils??
Dodge dealers up my way SUCK!

Are you saying that the 2500s use coil springs?? I thought that was only the 1500s.

YES< as of 2014, 2500's had optional coil rear springs, and as of 2015 all have them NO leave springs s on 2500's unless I think your getting a diesel, then they still have the leaf spring rear set up!

I bought a 2015 2500 with the 6.4 and it has the rear coils, I think all new 2500s even the diesels have the coils, unless there is an option to order them with leafs. Personally I went with the 2500 just because it had the coils, it rides so much better than the leaf rear end, not quite as smooth as a half ton but almost.
