Exclamation Parking Brake Pedal Not working??

Need HELP!

My parking brake has finally stopped working on incline hills. I put new rear shoes and double checked the cables and operation of the rear brakes. I also removed and replaced the Parking Brake Pedal assembly. Bought from MOPAR online. Changed it out today and again adjusted the rear brakes to be really snug.
Still the same, my van still roles on an incline.

What else can I do. I'm a DIY kinda a guy and don't have money to spent at the dealership. They want 85 just to look at what is wrong, diagnose the issue but I'd rather find it myself and fix it. Do the cable stretch over time? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum.

What year is the van? Yes absolutely the cable can stretch over time.

set the brake and got underneath the van, no slack but if I pull the cables with crowbar, they move about 3/8ths of an inch. Does this mean my cables are stretched or stretching?

Could be.

Are you sure you adjusted the brake shoes properly?

Just did some reading and it looks like the parking brake cable/pedal assembly is designed to auto adjust.

I have been through this as well, without success, and if you search here you may find the official procedure with pictures I believe.
My shoes were adjusted correctly. All the parts in the drum system were clean, installed properly and in good condition. The shoes are about 1/4 worn. Its the 2nd set its had.

I cannot get the e-brake to hold on any kind of a hill.

I have disconnected and lubed the pedal assembly also. The next thing in the book I believe suggests the pedal assembly is not adjusting and to replace it. I haven't rolled those dice yet.

Has anybody had success repairing this issue by replacing the parking brake CABLES? Anybody?

Okay, the cables stretched! Got new cables and measured each one to new ones. Total added up to 1 and 3/4 inch. Problem solved.

Thanks!

So I take it you did just the two cables going to the wheels?

Did you do it yourself? If so can we get some comments on the install?

The cable parts info, brand and cost would be great.

Thanks Again.
