Default This can't be the HEMI tick...

Someone give me a hand here. I have a brand new 2016 challenger RT 6spd with only 1500 miles on it.

This noise started shortly after I drove it off the lot and has gotten progressively more annoying.

Its the high pitched noise in the background.

To me it reminds me of when I computer fan spools up and something isn't sitting right.

They (The dealership closest to me) has said its everything from the HEMI tick, to fuel plugs, to valvetrain noise. I just want my damn car back quiet. Can't even enjoy listening to the engine rumble because of this high pitched wirrr

You should take your R/T back to the dealership. Take their mechanic for a ride.
Best they know asap and best you let FCA know too. Document everything for worst case.

New Warranty should cover it.

What ever the problem is, it does not sound good.

I've had two service managers ride with me along with a tech and a dealer rep. They refuse to admit there is even a problem.

I've called dodge corporate customer service (assuming that's who you meant by FCA) since the first day I took it in.

They are refusing to open the engine up because if they can't find an issue they say dodge won't cover any chargers.

They told me they figured out it was fuel injectors because of a mechanical stethoscope, but fuel injectors are never so loud you can hear them going 35+ down the road. This is even audible on the highway.

Take your R/T to a different dealership, not the one you bought it from. It's always good to get a different mechanic looking at the problem. Again, document everything.

Lemon law may be your last effort.

But first, you need to get help from FCA. There is a Dodge rep on here that monitors this site maybe they can help.

This effort will be time consuming, be patient. Again, document everything.

That is not a fuel ejector, I own two different Dodge R/T's with the 5.7L V8 and neither one makes that noise when driving.

Please do keep us posted on your effort.

Hi Zudren,

I'd be happy to follow up on your case if you'd like to PM your VIN.

Hey Kori,

I have a customer care advisor looking into some of this if you still want that VIN I'd be more than happy to give it to you.

UPDATE for today.

I have taken it to another dealer because the second I left the first one the noise started just as loud as ever. The other dealer has acknowledged it is an issue and is getting me to leave the car for a while on Friday. Their mechanic who rode with me was a pretty cool dude, turns out he has friends that work at my place.

As far as the noise still the high pitched wirrrrrr noticing a lot around 2k to 2700 rpms regardless of gear or if its out of gear completely.

Finally ABSOLUTELY PISSED at the first dealership and I'm naming names here.

DO NOT EVER GO TO A CROWN DEALERSHIP ON THE EAST COAST -- IE CROWN DODGE, HONDA, so forth.

Forget that they won't even acknowledge the issue...I've lost that battle. What sucks is I had washed my car off including inside the wheel wells prior to bringing it back the second time because I wanted to make sure nothing on the car itself was making the noise.

I got back a car that has dirt up to the mid line all the way around and all the way down the back including over top of the spoiler onto the trunk lid. SERIOUSLY!? Can't even get a response from them at this point.

PICS BELOW FOR THOSE INTERESTED. Gotta pay to get it detailed now...Notice how everything else is perfectly clean.

Yikes, I'm sorry to see this. If you have any questions or need anything, you can always send your VIN so I can take a look, but if you already have a case going and are ok with it, you can definitely continue working with that case manager.

Can I PM you my vin? Also I can't get a response from the other dealer but I think I want them to pay to clean my car. I've owned ford's, Hondas, and Toyotas and I've never had such bad customer service with a car before.

thanks!!

Hey I'd be more than happy to send you the Vin. Is it unreasonable for me to expect them to have my car cleaned

Default My year and a half in Dodge hell.

Did this get resolved for you? Here is my story so far. Issues I have had with my 2015 Dodge R/T plus shaker. Keep in mind that I purchased the car in February of 2016 and it is currently only at 16,000 miles.

02/27/16 RIGHT SIDE EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLE ESSEMBLY FALLS APART AND HAS TO BE REPLACED. 2 DAYS IN SHOP.

05/18/2016 EVAPORITAVE SYSTEM DETECTOR, VAPOR CANISTER SEAL AND FUEL CAP REPLACED. 2 DAYS IN SHOP.

11/16/2016 BRAKES ARE SQUEEKING BAD TAKE THE CAR IN AND INFORM THE TECHS. ( LATER IN 2017 THEY NOTICE THE SQUEEK AND THAT THE ROTERS HAVE BEEN WARPED THIS ENTIRE TIME.) THEY ALSO DO THE SOFTWARE FLASH ON THE CAR AND DO NOT TELL ME THAT THEY COMOPLETELY REPLACED THE ECU. 5 DAYS IN SHOP.

2/22/2017 O-RING HEATER LINE, WATER PUMP AND COOLANT REPLACED. I WAS ALSO HEARING LIFTER NOISE AND HAD REPORTED IT TWICE BY THIS TIME. THEY STATE NO LIFTER NOISE. 9 DAYS IN THE SHOP.

4/05/2017 OIL LEAK FROM MY LAST CHANGE AT THE DEALERSHIP AND INCORRECT OIL PUT IN THE CAR AS WELL AS STILL GETTING LIFTER NOISE. DELERSHIP FINDS LEAK FROM LOOSE OIL FILTER AND REPLACES OIL. DEALERSHIP REPLACES ONLY LEFT SIDE LIFTERSAND REFLASHES THE SOFTWEAR AGAIN. 13 DAYS IN SHOP.

05/05/2017 DECIDE TO GO TO A DIFFERENT DODGE SRVICE DEALERSHIP 30 MILES AWAY. INFORMED NEW TECH OF BRAKE NOISE, LIFTER NOISE AND SOME OTHER SMALL THINGS. NEW TECH STATES THEY CAN NOT DUPLICATE MY CONCERNS. THEN I SCHEDULE A DRIVE ALONG WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER. FOR THE NEXT WEEK. 4 DAYS IN THE SHOP.

05/17/2017 IN FOR RIDE ALONG WITH SERVICE MANAGER. ALSO GETTING A BURN COOLENT SMELL FROM RIGHT SIDE OF ENGINE. SERVICE TECH IS UNAVAILABLE FOR DRIVE ALONG. I LEAVE CAR WITH TECHS AT SHOP TO LOOK INTO COOLENT SMELL AND LIFTER TICK ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF ENGINE AGAIN. TECH STATES NO COOLANT LEAK AND COULD NOT DUPLICATE ENGINE TICK. SO I TRY AGAIN TO SCHEDULE SERVICE MANAGER RIDE ALONG AND DO FOR 6/05/17 ****15 DAYS IN SHOP****

06/05/17 BRING IN CAR TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT FOR ENGINE TICK AND COOLENT SMELL. SERVICE MANAGER IS UNAVAILABLE AGAIN. THE TECHNITIAN DECIDES TO DO A RIDE ALONG WITH ME. WHILE I AM DRIVING THE CAR I GET IT UP TO ABOUT 4,000 RPM AND TECH ADMITS THERE IS AN ENGINE TICK AND THAT THE BRAKES NEED WORK. DROP CAR OFF AND THEY REPLACE THE RIGHT SIDE LIFTERS BUT NOT THE OTHER SIDE OR CAM FOR SOME REASON. 7 DAYS IN SHOP.

06/13/2017 PICK UP MY CAR AND DRIVE IT A BLOCK AND A HALF. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND I GO BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE TECH IS NOW TELLING ME BOTH RIGHT SIDE O2 SNSORS WENT BAD. I ASKED HIM WHY AND HIS REPONSE WAS SOME COOLENT MUST HAVE FOULD THEM OUT. MY REPONSE PROBABLY WHAT I SMELT WHEN I BROUGHT IT IN THE LAST THREE TIMES FOR THAT. BUT HOW WOULD THE COOLENT EVEN GET THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE? CAR IS STILL IN THE SHOP. GOING ON 4 DAYS NOW.

******60 DAYS OUT OF SERVICE ON A BRAND NEW CAR I BOUGHT WITH 26 MILES ON IT DIRECT FROM THE DEALER. THAT ONLY HAS 16,000 MILES ON IT AND I HAVE ONLY OWNED FOR A YEAR AND A HALF. BUT STILL THEY WILL NOT REPLACE MY CAR. THIS IS REDICULOUS. ********
