AUto Shut Down
There is a relay under the hood labeled Auto SHut DOwn; I assume that is the thing that kicks in when you're in an accident, and it cuts off the ignition. Is that correct? What and / or where is the sensor that activates that "feature" And, is there a reset switch (Ford Escort has one in the trunk, for example). Is there any way to disable this fine "feature completely?
THis is a 95, SOHC, 5 speed NA with no engine mods, yet. Oh, and 100,000 miles
THanks,
COnrad

I also believe that they are connected together. I supose if you pulled the airbag fuses, or the crash sensor that would give you what you want, but also disable the airbags. Just for curiousity why would you want to disable it, I can't see any reason to do it other than to wanna blow up or burn in your car.

my Neon keeps cutting out; ignition just shuts down; new fuel pump, lots of pressure, sets a code 12, which is meaningless to me, but...
I tink that something in the PCM/Autoshutoff circuit is not working. it shuts down at odd intervals; nothing since I replaced the fuel pump a couple of thousand miles ago, then twice on Saturday; once at cruise, once at idle; both times it finally restarted after 1o or so minutes; then hasn't done it since...

Code 12 is the battery has been disconnected within the last 50 key cycles. Its nothing to worry about.
It could be your fuel. Either the injectors or it could possibly be that he pump is no good. Or your spark plugs.
ut without it throwing any codes it's really hard to diagnose.

With the pump being replaced, its probally not fuel problem, if you are not throwin codes. Has the car been in an accident, maybe it was in a slow speed accident and the sensor is acting up, I don't know how it works. I don't know how familiar you are with cars, but when its acting up and not starting, check fuel presure and spark, that might narrow it down. It could be any thing from a bad PCM, to a shorted wire, to a cloged fuel filter, to a million other things. Try to diagnos it when it acts up.

hi, yeah, I am fairly familiar with cars.... there is plenty of fuel pressure when it shuts itself down, I checked, even though I just replaced the pump. Not been in an accident that I am aware of, and there is no sign that it has been, none of the hidden welds, or signs of repair. Spark is good, except that (and I do not know for sure, since it only happens on the road) I don't think there is any spark until after the 10 minutes or so goes by, like it resets itself somewhere/somehow. I have the new performance PCM from Mopar along with a 55mm polished TB, but did not want to put them in until this problem was fixed... but maybe that would fix this problem to, so...

I would try the PCM, what the worst that can happen? Its pretty much plug and play shouldn't take more than 30 mins to change. It is so hard to diagnos a problem like this without being right there and it being intermitant. I had an 87 Jeep cherokee when I was a kid that did the same thing, had gas, spark, fuel presure the works, checked everything the car would not start. I got my father to come look at it in the parking lot the next day, he put a 2 1/2 gal can of gas in the tank insisting that it was the problem, I had just filled the tank the night before, and it spilled about the last 1/2 gallon. He sits in the truck turns the key and it starts. I never found out what it was, it never did it again, and I drove the truck for maybe another year or so.

ouch! don't youjust hate that? I had a Dodge Rampage, the little pickup based on the Omni-Horizon, and it was fun, but I ran out of gas; so I hiked back to the station, bought a gallon and came back...three hours later, after practically rebuilding it on the side of the road, the thing still would not start...I hiked back and bought another gallon of gas, and it started right up; I was on just enough of a slpe to keep the pickup out of the one gallon!
