1450 degrees!!
I was at our 1/8th mile track last weekend and did a few passes. On my last pass I glanced at my EGT gauge and saw 1450 and climbing. I immediately backed off. I've got a Silverline 4" exhaust and an AFE Stage 2 with PG 7 filter. The Smarty was on level 5 (90hp). Does this seem a little warm? I just about needed a new pair of underpants after that one. What other things can I do to decrease my EGT's?

RE: 1450 degrees!!
yep, that getting pretty hot. There's not a whole lot you can do for the EGT's except keep your foot off the peddle unless, you start spending some cash. Turbo, injectors, cam are some things that will drop them. But then, you'll need to add fuel to keep up with those things and you're right back to needing lower EGT's.
I sure wouldn't do that too often or you'll end up spending a lot more on the engine than what you will adding performance components.
What kind of time did you see ??? what was your 60ft ?

RE: 1450 degrees!!
I've seen where methanol injection claims to add power and decrease egts as well, but I don't have any experience with any of them. Cooling mist claims to lower egts up to 300 F and add 100 HP. Diesel Power Mag. states that depending upon the ratio of water to methanol, a noticeable drop in egt and 40-70 hp are common.June 2007 volume 3 no. 6 page 140. Great mag.

that actually mild... I was well over 1600F and that only what the gauge post block showed.
The new CR's run hotter than the older trucks. A bone stock truck will be ok seeing 1450F every one in a while sustained because the ECM will control all the parameters to keep the engine from killing itself. It will defuel if they go to far out of wack.
Once you start in on programmers, fuel boxes...etc, now you've gone outside the OEM parameters and took control away from the ECM. Bad things can happen when you do this and it's imperative to have all the right components in place to prevent that. Gauges are a big must!
Meth/water is a option but, can cause increased pressure which can be detrimental to the engine. The percentages mentioned above aren't too bad but, many will try and run 50/50 and end up with big problems.
A safer way to help EGT's would be to use NOS. Again though... you have to have the mods to support it.
