Default Oil and filters for Turbo Diesel?

I've decided that I'm not taking Hank to the Oil Changers or Jiffy Lube, those places are a racket. I'm going to maintain my baby myself and save money. So what oil do I need to buy a couple cases of? I've heard about Delo something. Also, I was told there are fuel filters I need to change too. Anyone know about this stuff?

Default RE: Oil and filters for Turbo Diesel?

What i have found to be the best oil to run in all of our diesels is Shell Rotella. A lot of people claim Pennzoil is good but its really not what its cut out to be. Right now im just using a fram filter but next change here im goin with the mopar oil filter. Fuel filters are very important on diesels as well as any engine you would be surprised how much power you can lose with a dirty filter so it is good to change them pretty often. Yea its not really worth taking to the garage to get it done. I always feel better doin it myself too. Have fun

Since you will be doing it yourself and want to save money, seriously consider Amsoil synthetic diesel oil. It is warrantied and rated for up to 14,000 mile oil change intervals with an oil filter change at 6 months or 7000 miles.

In reality this oil lasts about 40,000 miles or more with oil analysis testing.

Here a couple of links for you to learn more about their diesel oils:

You need to stay away from ANY oil filter that has neoprene in it, It will come apart and clog the engine. There is a service bulletin about this. If your engine fails and you have a filter with neoprene in it on the truck, your warranty may not cover it

I've used the Frams happily but have found that when I can get a Wix brand filter it seems to be the higher quality. Comparing a Wix to a Mopar filter may also lead one to suspect Wix and Mopar oil filters come from the same place... but Wix are a normal price like the Frams.

please make sure that you have a drain pan that holds more than 12 QUARTS of oil!!!

cummins carry 12 qts, drains fast when warm!!

I am using the Fram TG-16 oil filter on my 01 Ram 5.2l.
I have heard Fram filters get knocked on these pages, but the Tough Guard has a rubber drainback valve instead of the cardboard one on the orange filters.

How doI know if one filter works better than another, besides cutting it open? (Messy!)
Does it just keep the oil clean longer?

diesels have more oil pressure vs a gasser.

*SIGH*[&:]

Fram filters are good. . .I use them on my toyota. . .HOWEVER, they cannot handle the oil pressures generated from the Cummins. Gassers produce what. . .20psi. . . I see 20spi at Idle and 45-50 while on the road.

someone brought this bad boy from the way back machine
