Default 93 Dodge Shadow

I think the Shadow is somewhat of a K-Car, so I'am writing this post in here:
I need some help, I'am 15 years old, next year my parents plan to buy a new vehicle, and hand down the 1993 Dodge Shadow to me, I'am saving up money for insurance and parts for the car, because I want to make it look good, but I dont want to look like a ricer, or a show car. Can anyone help me with what sites I should look at for parts?

Welcome to DF! The Shadow is indeed a K car derivative, so you posted it in the right forum. What engine and transmission are in it? Here area few good sites for parts and info on your Shadow (check out our sponsors here for great deals on parts):

If its a 4cyl, which means its a 2.5l, you may want to check out www.thedodgegarage.com. Theres a section there for natuarally asperated cars - might net you a few hp.

I also have a 93 Dodge Shadow, Paid $400 for it about 5 months ago, been a pretty good car other than the peeling paint. I have been looking for some aftermarket parts and have found only 2 choices for bodykits, Which neither of I really care for lol. I want to add some performance to my car but dont know where to really start...I have looked into getting a turbo but am unsure if one will work with the 2.5L. Not sure if there is anything else I can do other than adding a tubro to get more power out of it, If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it. (I have changed plugs, wires, and cap/points).

Make sure you have no cracks in the head, all shadows are known for having them. If you catch it early you should be ok but if you you end up with them between each gasket your in for high repairs. I know mine sat for 4 years and I started driving it and you can guess the rest, $700 dollars in repairs and the car is only worth $750.

Well went to leave today and my car wouldnt start, so first thing i did was look at the battery meter was around 10-12v it was cranking over but spittin and spuderin like it wasnt getting spark or something. to make a long story short im still unsure what the problem is, i eliminated the problem of fuel pump, and anything that has to do with distributer/spark plugs. while checking the rotor i did realize that the point for cyl #4 wasnt pushed in all the way :\ i know when i changed everything that they were all pushed in tight but it doesnt look to be worn out at all..my dad says he thinks the timing belt may have slipped but it didnt seem loose at all. if anyone else has had any problems similar to this and has a quick fix or anything please let me know.

Checked error codes today got Error 36 and 43 each site i look at has different reasons for getting these errors and for error 43 i feel i may have caused due to cylinder #4 not firing for who knows how long My main problems is this: 36
Wastegate Solenoid Circuit{14}

VNT Solenoid No. 3{15}

{14}—Except Turbo III & IV engines.
{15}—Turbo III & IV engines.
they dont say this on that site but: 36* Air switching solenoid circuit (non-turbo) or
wastegate solenoid circuit on turbochared modles.
my question is what is a air switching solenoid? i have googled it but havent found out any info for one in a shadow, nor have i on auto-zones website. if anyone knows anything about this solenoid please let me know asap.
Also the car sounds like its trying to start, i can see fuel going into the throttle body, and have checked spark with a spark tester.

I had a vacuum line come off once on my Shelby Z and it screwed it up and when I reconnected it it wouldn't start. I had to start it with the line disconnected and slowly put the vacuum line near the hard line it was attached to, pulling it back some when it would almost die. After doing this enough it finally cleared it up and I got it reconnected without killing the car and I have no idea why it was acting that way, but it was eventually good to go once again.[8D]

Tried with vacuum lines unhooked also tried with M.A.P. Sensor unhooked, when i first tried to start it this morning it almost started : ( but that was the only time that it even really tried. I took the coil to auto zone and had it tested, he said the positive side is a little high but not too high. Negative side looked good. He suggested replacing the pick-up in the distributer, but i didnt get a new one seeings that im getting spark i figured i didnt need one. I mean why replace something that costs 30 bux if i dont need it right? Im to the point that i am just about ready to sell the dang car its buggin me that much. Its probaly something that I have overlooked a million times and probaly something very stupid. I called my dad and he said he had no ideas and cant help me til next week, If anyone else has some suggestions please let me know. Im really starting to think the timing belt slipped but i cant remove the lower plastic cover that protects the timing belt, if anyone knows exactly how to remove it please let me know. The only way that i can see is to take all the other belts off, and possibly the lower pulley. Which i dont think you should have to do but am not sure as i have never dealt with timing belts before.

YAY! Was trying to get the motor to TDC and while turning it tryin to get it there.....sounded like it wanted to start. So I put plug #1 back in and kept craking on it while hitting the gas. Not even 10 tries later it started ran really rough at first (probaly all the fuel and crap in the cylinders from trying to start it and it not starting). Anyhow I took it around a few blocks and had my girlfriend follow me, just incase I had problems, This time I had the air filter housing and all off along with having a few lines unhooked (the one that goes into the intake from the valve cover and the little one that connects under the air housing). I now have a computer error code 3 and thats it, Funny thing is that no sites define error 3 and start at 11 LOL! Anyhow i get back to the house and put the air filter and crap back on go to start the car and it goes back to not wanting to start!! So i pull it all back off and get it to start (again pressing the gas a little) hook the small hose back up and go for another drive, this time a little longer. I get to my 3rd stop light and the car stalls out (running under 550rpm) started back up fairly easy tho (once again using the gas). I still feel it has a small problem but am unsure of what it may be, after I got home i shut it off and it started right back up. Ive seen a few things about stalling problems so Im going to look there for suggestions aswell. One last thing what should the 2.5L engine idle at? I have a Sunpro Super Tach II and the car has always idled at 850-1000rpm in park or drive, now in drive it idles at 700-850.

There is no error code #3, all codes are two digit numbers. Glad to hear you got it running. I was going to suggest trying starting fluid since it is far more combustable and more likely to fire. Put in a new set of plugs and see how it does, continue to check for codes still. If you get a new coil, I highly recommend that you get the MSD Blaster 2 ignition coil, it is only $30-$35 and it will give you far better and stronger spark. Unfortunately there are not many performance plug wires for the 2.5L, but it might be worth getting if you can find some, the ones I found for my Shelby Z were Accel Super Stock wires and they had to be ordered and it took a month to get them.

It could also be bad gas, put in a bottle of fuel injector cleaner that also disperses water or also get a bottle of dry gas as well and add it to your next fill up, use a decent grade of gas as well.

Default 1991 dodge shadow timing

I have recently purchased a 1991 shadow and the timing belt was stripped out at the crank. Did it hurt any of the top end whenn it stripped while running?

Default shadow ignition modules

my honey has a 93 shadow. where is the shadow ignition module located in the distributor???? a neighbor/buddy HAD an older shadow. How it surpassed 210,000 miles knowing the care this guy didnt give it is beyond me. BUT I know its ignition was still working at 210,000 as the new owner drove it away I recall so does a shadow ignition just never wear out????
Have been working at its oil leak too recentally changed its valve cover gasket which helped some. Changing that got me into t he timing belt which looks nice despites 150 some thousand miles.
The car has its problems BUT its still a very very good driving car!! I have always believed that if products made here at home in the usa including cars arent good enough then i dont need that product thus I have never beleived in import cars. I once had an 87 Nissan, 88 toyota, 91 honda. They last forever???????? I junked them all the shadow, American made keeps going!

Hello, i'm 16 and i have a little problem i have run in to on my 94 shadow and about two weeks ago it started to die randomly, one day it would be fin the next go a mile and die. let it set for 15-20 min and it would fire some times. i replaced plugs, wires didn't help. then i noticed a wiring harness that hooks up to the carb and goes on ether side of the motor one goes to the exhaust and the other to somewhere. anyway it was melted together and i replaced it and wrapped it in heat resisted wrap. that didn't work. it then i started simple, blew out the fuel lines, didn't work, replaced the fuel filter, didn't work, tested the fuel pump it wasn't working, replaced it. it still don't work. so i tested the fuel presser and it wasn't getting gas at all, so i blew the lines and still no gas after cycling. I have come to the conclusion that the fuel pump is not getting power. DOES ANYONE know where to start with the fuel pump wiring???>> fuses, broken lines, smurfs, anything??
