Default 3 speed A727 Trans for 1994 ram van b250

I have a 94 b250 and transmission gone out. It says 3 speed A727 transmission. Can anyone give me the approximate cost of a used transmission for this and what would be a good price for shop to put in?

Thanks

A used transmission costs about 300-700 depending if you take it out yourself at the junkyard or if they do it for you.

Install is about 200-400.

I had mine rebuilt about 4 years ago for 1000.

Basically you will need to see what you can find.

Now if you have a friend or know a good independent Chrysler/GM/Ford shop you can get this price down 500, used, but the timing would have to be right.

Your lucky there are 727(s) all over the place you will be able to find one at a salvage yard for as little as $200- $500. A question for you is why did your current one fail (heat, low fluid or wrong fluid?) 727s are incredibly stout units.

I would flush or better yet replace the tranny cooler if you have one and flush the lines. A used unit should have cherry red fluid without bad smells (burnt) and you will be good to go. Consider installing it yourself as it is a easy job on B Vans, bell housing bolts are all easy to reach and on most 8 lugged vans the job can be done with the wheels on the ground no need for jack stands. Wish I had some idea what a local shop would charge for installation but I do not but I imagine it would be reasonable.

Best of luck with the tranny and van lastly Happy Holidays to you and your family.

Thanks guys! The current transmission has been leaking for years and I've tried to keep filled. Just finally went out.

I got a quote from a local shop place for $300 to install

I am gonna call around junk yards and see if I can get one. but got a quote from one place for $675 (plus core)

I really don't want to spend $1000 on this van.

The $300 for install is not bad but call a salvage yard who are not heavy drug users like the one who quoted $675+core. A local yard here in Massachusetts has three 727s in their warehouse on a rack with torque converters $275 (no core charge) and they will load it in your pickup or van no charge.

Now that's a fair price and exactly what I was hoping for. Gonna start calling today!

Thanks I was hoping I wasn't thinking wrong on that price!

Anyone know if all 94's on the b250 with 3 speed transmissions were non-lock up?

Call a salvage yard or auto parts store and give them your VIN and they will tell you.

I would be surprised if it was not lockup, the salvage yard can confirm if what they have fits, because 727(s) are not all the same lengths. Some tail shafts are longer than others.

Spent most of day at junk yards and calling NO LUCK

I was given the following printout. Maybe it could be of use to someone else looking for this transmission.
