2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon Official Pricing Announced

Dodge has announced pricing for the new Challenger SRT Demon, starting under $84,000 before taxes and fees.

The 2018 Dodge Demon is the quickest production road car in the history of the automobile and when it was introduced back in April, Dodge CEO Tim Kuniskis promised that it would have a price starting under $100,000. With today’s official pricing announcement, we learn that the new Demon starts way under $100,000 – at $83,295. That price does not include gas guzzler tax ($1,700), the destination fee ($1,095) or the Demon Crate ($1 – really, $1), but even when you add in those required costs, the Demon’s out-the-door price of $86,901 is still far less expensive than any other 9-second production road car sold in the world.

The next quickest production road car in the world is the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport, which had an MSRP back in 2011 of just under $2.5 million USD, so for the price of that Bugatti, you could buy 29 Demons – all of which would turn quicker quarter mile times than the multimillion dollar exotic.

So the MSRP of the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon with nothing but the required fees and the Demon Crate (which actually costs $1 for everything included) comes to $86,091, but what about those folks who want a car with better street manners? Well, you can add a cloth passenger seat for $1 and the matching rear seat assembly is also $1. You can also add the trunk carpeting for a dollar, so to get the Demon with the all of the basic interior bits and seating for 4, it will cost you $86,094.

“Eighty-five thousand dollars is not just a number in a business case to Dodge; we know it’s a lot of money and a significant up-charge over a Challenger Hellcat,” said Tim Kuniskis, Head of Passenger Cars – Dodge, SRT, Chrysler and FIAT, FCA North America. “We worked very hard to build as much value into the Challenger SRT Demon as possible – features, performance and exclusivity that simply can’t be duplicated with a goal of maintaining, and possibly even growing, as much future value as possible.”

While the 2018 Demon is intended to be a no-nonsense drag car with excellent road manners built in, there are some optional items which won’t help the car go any faster – but they will make the car more unique and more comfortable for daily driving.

For $995, Demon buyers can add the Comfort Audio Group, which includes an 18 speaker Harman Kardon sound system with two subwoofers and an 900 watt amp, premium floor mats, bright pedals and a cloth passenger seat.

For $1,595, Demon buyers can opt up to the Leather Front Seat Group, which adds leather and suede wrapped, heated/cooled front seats with an embossed Demon head logo, a power tilt/telescope steering column, premium floor mats, bright colored pedals and for those frosty mornings at the track – a heated steering wheel.

If you are buying the new Demon and you want the 18 speaker sound system and a premium feel, the Comfort Audio and Leather Seating Group combines the features of those two groups into a value package for just $2,495.

Finally, there are some aesthetic options, including red seat belts, a satin black hood and a satin black graphics package. The red seat belts add $195, the satin black hood adds $1,995 and the satin black graphics package – which includes a satin black finish on the hood, roof and trunk lid, adds $3,495 to the bottom line.

Oh, there is also an optional sunroof package, but it has an MSRP of $4,995 due to the fact that a drag package doesn’t really need a sunroof, so we have to wonder how many Demon owners will want their road legal drag car to have a sunroof with a $5k upcharge – but for those who want it, the option is there.

While you can get into the 2018 Demon in 9.65 quarter mile form for $86,901, checking every box brings about a total price of $97,273, so even with every option, the 840 horsepower Challenger which will lift the front wheels off of the ground stays under $100,000.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
