2019 Ram 1500 Spy Shots Reveal Grown-Up Look

2019 Ram 1500 Spy Shot

New spy photos capture Ram’s upcoming pickup completely undisguised. Well, at least the front end is completely bare.

It’s no secret that Ram is one of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ most profitable companies. And to keep drivers interested in the automaker’s pickup trucks, Ram plans to unveil a new 1500 for 2019. It’s about time, as the current generation on the road today was introduced back in 2009. While we’ve seen spy shots of the upcoming Ram 1500 before, these new photos capture the front end in all of its grown-up glory.

The current Ram 1500 has a muscular front end with a massive front bumper, large headlights, and an enormous grille that prominently houses the Ram logo, or on some models, the “RAM” moniker. If we could describe the current pickup truck’s look in one world, it would be chunky. This is something Ram has looked to change with the 2019 model.

These photos reveal a more toned-down design. The truck’s hood has two large indents instead of the one on the current variant. Ram’s hexagonal grille remains, but it’s skinnier. And new headlights with an LED strip flank the updated grille. A new chrome trim piece sits above the grille and the headlights, and runs the entire length of the front end.

Below the grille sits a large chrome bumper that brings the chunky back. Slim fog lights sit at either end of the bumper, while a large rectangular vent in the center of the bumper dominates its design. Two smaller cutouts, that appear to be closed off, sit on the bottom of the bumper.

The design looks more upscale than what Ram’s putting out now, and that even carries over to the new badges that the pickup’s wearing. On the majority of Ram 1500 models, there are badges on the doors that clearly state “RAM 1500.” The prototype that was photographed is wearing a new badge that encompasses “1500” above “HEMI 5.7L” on both sides of the vehicle’s hood. It’s an interesting place to put new badges, but they look good.

The prototype, which looks to be either a Crew Cab or a Quad Cab model, has a chiseled line that runs from the front fenders through the side of the pickup. While we can’t see the back of the vehicle, our spy photographer claims the line kicks up as it reaches the rear end of the truck. The door handles are body-colored, but have chrome inserts to match the other chrome-forward trim pieces on the prototype.

Moving to the back, our spies managed to get a few snaps of the pickup’s rear end without any camouflage. The tailgate handle is a chrome piece, because chrome and trucks go hand-in-hand, while large mounting holes will most likely see the massive “RAM” badge reappear on the back. The rear bumper isn’t as muscular, but is skinnier and has more definition.

Overall, the 2019 Ram 1500, if the prototype is anything to go off of, is heading upstream to a more refined look. Fans of the chunky styling found on the current Ram 1500 may dislike the pickup truck’s new look, but the prototype definitely looks like a modern competitor to the Ford F-150 and Chevrolet Silverado 1500. We expect the new Ram 1500 to make its official debut at next year’s North American International Auto Show in January.
