When the 2019 Ram Heavy Duty goes on sale later this year, it will be offered in six trimlines, Tradesman, Big Horn/Lonestar, Power Wagon, Laramie, Laramie Longhorn and Limited. Among those trim levels, buyers can pick a regular cab, a Crew Cab or the Mega Cab, with bed lengths varying by cab size.

Interior features, both standard and optional, vary by trim level, but every new 2500 and 3500 cabin will offer a wide array of finishes from the dash to the seats to the door panels. From the basic cloth seats in the Tradesman to the premium embroidered leather in the Limited, these trucks will have a price range for every big truck buyer, but for those looking for the high-end experience, no other truck will rival this new Ram.

While there are smaller infotainment screens, the 2019 Ram HD features the same stunning 12-inch infotainment screen as the light duty trucks, which is something that no automaker other than Tesla can challenge. For those who might be driving with work gloves, the HVAC system includes traditional knobs and buttons regardless of the size of the infotainment screen. For audiophiles, there is a new 750-watt, 17-speaker Harman Kardon sound system that should blow away anything from other companies that sell trucks.

At the same time, Ram leaves plenty of space for personal electronics in the massive center console with five USB charging ports in the center console. In fact, Ram offers more storage space than any other heavy duty truck on the market, with the Mega Cab achieving 258 liters is compartments. That is more than double the storage capacity of the closest competition and in that largest cab, Ram offers 15-degrees of rear-seat recline with 41 inches of legroom, so it also offers the most comfortable rear passenger experience in addition to the most cargo space, the most power, the most towing capabilities and the greatest payload capacity.

Other high tech features of the new Ram HD includes a 360-degree exterior camera system, a component trailer camera that can go inside or on the rear of a trailer, the trailer reverse guidance system, the Advanced Trailer Tire Pressure Monitoring System, Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking and more than a hundred other safety-oriented gadgets.

Same Great Power Wagon

As mentioned above, the Power Wagon trim level returns for 2019 and once again, it is based on a Ram 2500 Crew Cab with the 6.4-liter Hemi, a unique suspension setup that has the body sitting here off of the ground, package-specific wheels and tires, black exterior accents, a RAM logo on the tailgate rather than the Ram’s head and a 12,000-pound Warn winch up front.

As the most off-road-capable ¾-ton truck in America, this the package that enthusiasts are going to love, as it combines excellent working abilities with incredible off-road capabilities and a sporty exterior look.

The new Ram Heavy Duty is here and while it lacks the crosshair grille that so many fans of the brand will miss, there is literally nothing else to complain about with these new trucks. In both gas and diesel form, these are the most powerful trucks in their classes, offering the highest towing and hauling abilities, the roomiest cabins and the most impressive infotainment package in the heavy duty world.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
