Stunning B5 Blue Demon with only six miles on the odometer haunts Mecum’s auction website, but not for very long.

The 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is currently the most powerful American production street car ever. With 840 horsepower, 770 lb-ft of torque and a host of unique features, the modern Demon can cover the quarter mile in less than 10 seconds – making it the quickest production car in the world. We came across this stunning B5 Blue Demon with only six miles on the odometer while flipping through the listings for Dodge products on Mecum’s auction website.

The only downside to this wicked supercharged Challenger is that only 3,000 were produced for the United States, so finding a dealership with one available when they went on sale last year proved to be a nightmare for many prospective buyers.

Getting a Demon Today

Quite a few of these limited-edition Mopar muscle cars were placed for sale as soon as the original owners got ahold of them, leading to a quick climb in value. As a result, those new Demons that are available for sale are selling for figures well above the original price, but whether they are being sold at dealerships, online or at high profile auctions – they are selling quickly.

This means that if you still want to buy a 2018 Demon, you will need to find one that is available for sale and you will need to be prepared to pay big money.

Details

The 2018 Demon being auctioned off at the Mecum Harrisburg auction is car #2,737 and it is painted B5 Blue with the Satin Black hood, roof and trunk lid. It also has the optional passenger seat and under the protective plastic, this car appears to have the optional leather upgrade, but we do not know if it has the rear seat as well.

We do know that this 2018 Demon has never been dealer prepared for delivery, meaning that it was likely ordered by the dealership or by an employee of the dealership specifically to be auctioned off for big money. That would explain why the odometer only reads five miles – as this car has never been driven since being pulled out of the enclosed delivery truck.

For those wondering, the Demon Crate and the other unique items that come with buying this limited edition Dodge Challenger don’t come with the car. The winner of the auction should be able to acquire those items from the automaker’s concierge system after making the purchase.

What to Expect

While there are still come cars available on dealership lots and we are likely to see more pop up in these high profile collector’s auctions, the number of available cars is constantly decreasing while the price in constantly increasing.

Anyone serious about making the trip to Pennsylvania with the hopes of buying this 840-horsepower muscle car should be prepared to spend at least $125,000. However, based on other auction sales of the new Demon, bidders will want to have closer to $150,000 on hand if they really want to drive this beast home.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
