Bathing Ape Mopars Turn Plenty of Heads at Texas Car Meet

By -

One is a Charger, the other’s a Trackhawk. Both may be the first to wear wraps styled after the popular Japanese brand.

Back in 1993, Japanese streetwear designer and entrepreneur extraordinaire Nigo borrowed around $22,000 in 1993 dollars, plus space in a friend’s shop, to launch his now-famous streetwear brand, A Bathing Ape. The label grew through word of mouth, exploding in the late ’90s and early 2000s with the help of hip hop stars like The Notorious B.I.G., Soulja Boy, and Pharrell Williams.

Today, it’s not too hard to find a BAPE camo hoodie or tee, especially through official channels. However, you won’t find too many Mopars wearing the signature camo of Nigo. In fact, there are only two right now, both appearing on the YouTube channel BigBeeTV as a special nighttime gathering in Houston, Texas.

“My boy by the name of Bape Scat […] he has that crazy camo BAPE wrap on his Charger Scat Pack,” the YouTuber said. “He’s hosting his first car meet. I’m gonna show love, show my boy some support.”

After meeting up with another Mopar fan in her Charger, the duo roll down the highway to the Instagrammer’s first-ever meet, which, for some reason, is being held at night.

“You know, it’s the just the beginning,” said the Instagrammer, “but hey, stay tuned. It’s gonna get crazy. We’re gonna go bananas in the jungle. My man pulled up in that BAPE ‘Hawk […] Two BAPE cars, when’s the last time you seen that?”

The Houstonian Instagrammer’s 2017 Charger R/T Scat Pack was given its green BAPE camo wrap some time before April 1, 2018, the 25th anniversary of Zigo’s famous label. It didn’t come alone to the nighttime car meet, though.

“Check out this BAPE wrap Trackhawk,” the YouTuber said. “Look at that! Supercharged, got the gorilla print. This is nice […] He got some big wheels, some Forgiatos. Yeah, he got them yellow Brembo brakes.”

Owned by Oregonian Instagrammer bapehawk, the 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk combined its powers with an urban BAPE camo wrap, applied some time before its October 19 Instagram debut.

The nighttime gathering featuring the two BAPE Mopars went off without a hitch, aside from a visit from the Houston Police Department regarding reports of a few of the participants street racing, which appeared not to be the case. Let’s hope the next meet will be held in the daylight, though, if only to better see the wrapped Charger.
