Challenger Hellcat Widebody gets extreme aero bits, new wheels and a custom stance.

There have been some unsubstantiated rumors floating around the internet that Dodge is working on an extreme road racing version of the Challenger SRT Hellcat Widebody. The rumors claim that this road racing muscle car will be inspired by the Dodge Viper ACR, with a reduction in weight, an improvement in aerodynamics and presumably a retuned suspension system.

Frankly, we are skeptical that such a car is on the way, but Abimelec Arellano from Abimelec Design has put together a great rendering of what a road race-ready Hellcat Challenger Widebody might look like. As you can see in the images here, this isn’t one of his most extreme renderings, but it still looks fantastic.

Abimelec Designs

If you follow our content here on DodgeForum, the name Abimelec Arellano might be familiar. Over the course of the past year, this skilled graphic artist from Mexico has created several Mopar muscle cars that have gone viral on social media.

The first was back in April when he transformed a 2018 Demon into a modern “Hemi Under Glass” wheelstander. That work was of such high quality that many people believed that it was an actual Demon with the engine moved to the trunk, under a custom glass hatch. Click here for a closer look at that.

More recently, Abimelec recreated a Dodge magazine ad for a classic Charger, but he added some Hellcat branding. As a result, many people believed that there was a rare Hellcat Charger back in the late 1970s and early 1970s. There wasn’t, but the fact that he fools so many people is a testament to the quality of his work.

Road Racing Challenger

When the artist first shared this menacing Hellcat Challenger to his Facebook and Instagram accounts, he included the following basic details.

“Well, we are a day away from 2020 and I would like to share this render to close off 2019. Challenger Hellcat with a slight re-work to suit a track day.”

Now, due to the shadowy nature of the images, some of the finer details of this Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Widebody road racer are hard to see, but the key changes are clear. Up front, this beast has a custom front fascia with a huge lower opening, a chin spoiler and dive planes. The upper grille has been cleared out, with the exception of the Cuda-like divider in the middle.

Next, while the basic design of the factory widebody package has been retained, the flares appear to be lower profile than the factory look and the rear flare on this custom car has the trailer portion trimmed away. Under those flares is a set of custom wheels that extend perfectly to the edge of the body, and this car is definitely lower than a stock Hellcat Challenger.

Of course, a proper road racer has gobs of aero, so this custom Challenger Hellcat Widebody has a massive rear wing that bolts to the rear fascia and extends up over the rear end.

Finally, there are no interior shots of this car but we can see in the images that Abimelec added the required safety cage, along with removing the passenger’s seat.

We don’t know if Dodge is actually working on an extreme road racing version of the Challenger SRT Hellcat Widebody but if they are, we hope that it looks a little like this.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
