Dodge Demon Dominates Z06, CTS-V & Mustangs in Half-mile Racing
We’ve seen some quarter-mile races, but these Demons are now dominating the Wannagofast Half-mile races.
As far as party tricks go, the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon sure does the quarter-mile run quite quickly. One thing that we have always been interested in seeing though is how one of these cars gets on in the world of half mile drag races. We got what we asked for in the form of two Dodge Demons that showed up for the Wannagofast half-mile drag racing series.
Competition came in the form of Mustangs, Corvette Z06s, and CTS-Vs, all obviously in various states of tune. So how would a stock Demon square up? Well, it doesn’t do too bad at all, however competition is stiff.
While the Demons tended to be in the upper 150 mile per hour range at the half mile mark, some cars at this event were crazy fast, including the first Cadillac CTS-V and the yellow Mustang GT. But now, we have a benchmark for how fast a Demon runs on a half mile race.
Runway drag racing is starting to gain a lot of popularity, with events such as this Wannagofast race popping up at airport runways all across the ‘States. They differ somewhat from event to event, as some have an area to stage for a rolling race, and others like this one start from a standstill. It would be tough for a Demon to really match the claimed quarter-mile times on a runway race as the surface isn’t prepped at all like a drag strip.
However, these races favor high horsepower, so a perfect launch isn’t quite as critical. Although take traction for granted and you’ll throw away a race like one of the Z06’s in this video.
