2018 Dodge Durango SRT packs the same power, hauls more and pulls more weight for thousands less than the SRT Jeep.

Dodge has announced the pricing for the 2018 Dodge Durango SRT and with an MSRP of $62,995, this 475 horsepower SUV combines performance and capability like few other vehicles sold in the USA – while costing at least a few thousand less than any comparable SUV. When you add on the destination fee of $1,095, the Durango SRT has an out-the-door price of $64,090 so for under $70,000, you can get into a 3-row SUV that will tow 8,700 lbs and run high 12-second quarter mile times.

So what do you get for $64,090 when buying the 2018 Dodge Durango SRT?

First and foremost, you get the 392 cubic inch Hemi, which sends 475 horsepower and 470lb-ft of torque through a high performance 8-speed automatic transmission to the advanced all-wheel drive system. When coupled with the unique 20×10” wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zero tires, the SRT Durango will dash from 0-60 in 4.4 seconds en route to an NHRA certified quarter mile time of 12.9 seconds.

There are quicker and more powerful SUVs, including the similarly-powered SRT Jeep, but the Durango SRT offers more passenger space (thanks to the 3rd row seats) and the Dodge tows 1,500lbs more than the Jeep – maxing out at 8,700lbs. Really, there is no other SUV which combines interior space, performance and working capabilities in this price range, but like all SRT products – the new SRT Durango is more than just go-fast parts.

In addition to the new Durango SRT wheels, the 475 horsepower SUV also has an aggressive front fascia which bolsters engine cooling and aerodynamics along with a new hood which draws air in for cooling through the front-facing hood scoop while also sucking out the hot air through dual vents.

Finally, the Durango SRT has a premium cabin, with heated and cooled leather front seats, heated second row seats, an award winning UConnect infotainment system with the 8.4” touchscreen, a premium sound system and premium finishes from top to bottom.

Basically, the 2018 Dodge Durango SRT includes everything that you get with the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT, but it has more passenger space, a higher towing capacity and a smaller price tag – starting $3,900 below the SRT Jeep.

The 2018 Durango SRT will begin reaching dealerships during the 4th quarter of this year and orders should obviously start late in the 3rd quarter or early in the 4th quarter, although the exact date for the opening of the SRT Durango order banks has not been announced thus far.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
