Euro Hemi Cuda Race Car May Be the Best Barn Find Ever

By -

Finding a Hemi Cuda in France isn’t exactly a common occurrence. But this one is even more special than that.

There isn’t much we love more than a good barn find. And these days, we don’t have to wait long to see the next great one. Credit those individuals who scour the far reaches of the earth to uncover every hidden gem out there. But while we’ve seen some great barn finds in recent years, it’ll be hard to top what Colton Amster, owner of Redline Restorations, came across. And that’s a historically significant Hemi Cuda racer campaigned across Europe.

Amster graces us with his fascinating story via this video from VINwiki, and oh what a tale it is. “A few years ago we had an associate contact us over in Europe,” Amster recalls. “He said, ‘I’ve got a really great American car for you.’ It was a Hemi Cuda. But this Hemi Cuda was in a barn, like most of these crazy cars that have epic stories. It was in the hillside of France that was known as a gypsy occupied location.”

Any old ’70s Hemi Cuda barn find is obviously special. But this particular “gypsy car,” as they called it, was more than just your average iconic muscle car. “We did a little more research with our associate and he said this might be the French racing Cuda. Chrysler had owned and shipped it over to Europe for their attempt at European racing. We started researching it and found out it won four Group A championships.”

After extensive research, the crew discovered that this was, in fact, that legendary race car. Then, they spent considerable time and effort restoring it back to its original racing livery.

They even managed to reconnect with the car’s original driver, Henri Chemin. Then, they shipped the car back to Europe and let Chemin take a spin around a track in it. And if that isn’t the most epic barn find story ever, we don’t know what is.
