Florida man with no driver’s license tried to evade police and led them on a 140-MPH high speed chase only to put himself in a ditch.

It seems that it’s becoming nearly a daily occurrence at this point for a Challenger or Charger Hellcat to take police on a high-speed adventure. That’s not so surprising, given that the most stolen car in the United States for the 2023 model year was the Charger Hellcat. That said, it’s a bit more of a rare occasion that one of the other Stellantis vehicles with the ferocious supercharged Hellcat V8 under the hood at the forefront of one of these chases. To nobody’s surprise, though, a Florida man stepped up to the plate to take this Trackhawk for a spin.

According to Carscoops, the midst of the police chase saw speeds over 140 miles per hour. As is often the case, police attempted to pull the driver over for a routine traffic stop. The driver clearly had other plans, though. WSVN Miami reports that Jose Alberto Rodriguez, the man behind the wheel, took off and tried his best to evade the police. Unfortunately, as is often the case with these kinds of scenarios, he ran out of skill.

In the video below, Rodriguez seems to have pretty decent control of the car. He whips it around a corner and cooks the tires as he does a full 180 under power. For a split second, it almost looked as if he knew what he was doing. It quickly became clear that he didn’t, though, as he then immediately drove into a ditch to try to escape. We’re not quite sure if he thought the ditch was a bit more shallow than it was, but it put a serious damper on his progress.

Typically, an off-road scenario wouldn’t be much of a problem for a Jeep Grand Cherokee. However, the performance-oriented Trackhawk is more suited for, well, the track. The tires were happily spinning to the top of the rev limiter on concrete just moments before, so you can imagine the lack of traction it had in that ditch. Ultimately, this was our would-be escapee’s downfall. His lack of available momentum allowed police to pin him in and bring the chase to an end.

We could easily wrap this one up with a classic “crime doesn’t pay” rant or something along those lines. However, we’re pretty confident you get the idea. Instead, we’ll just recommend you check out the video below for a bit of a closer examination of the situation unfolding. Grab your popcorn!
