HPE1000 and Lambo

Hennessey Performance does the impossible once again, HPE1000 Dodge Durango SUV completely embarrasses the V12-powered supercar.

The Dodge Durango Hellcat is already a remarkable vehicle. Huge power and performance but still one of the most practical vehicles you can buy. It has proven to be so popular that Dodge has decided to build more of them to satisfy demand. However, there are some people that can’t leave well enough alone. Huge power is good but crazy power is even better. Enter the power-hungry folks over at Hennessey Performance and their HPE1000 Dodge Durango.

This week’s “Wicked Wednesday” presented by Nitto Tire is about a drag race between a supercar and an SUV. And the SUV completely owns the pricey exotic. This video comes to us courtesy of the Hennessey Performance YouTube channel. We know the HPE1000 Dodge Durango makes big power but the results here are shocking.

The Hennessey Performance HPE1000 Dodge Durango is limited to only 50 copies. However, that is about the only thing on this beast that is limited. Want some numbers? 1,012 horsepower and 969 lb.-ft. or torque. This is made possible with an upgraded high-flow supercharger system. The supercharger front and rear drive pulleys are upgraded. There is a high-flow filtration system as well as fuel injectors. The ECM and TCM calibrations have been upgraded. And of course, there is the typical Hennessey badging to complete the look. Also, don’t forget that Hennessey offers a 2-year/24,000-mile warranty.

Engine

The Opponent

A Lamborghini Aventador. Sure the Lambo is stock, but the Aventador is not exactly hurting for performance when it leaves the factory. The car makes about 700 horsepower from its 6.5L V-12 engine. That power is fed to the ground via a 7-speed automatic transmission. It grips the road with all-wheel drive for exceptional launches. The car hits 60 mph in less than 3 seconds and runs 10s in the quarter. It also costs about four times more than the Durango. Yes, the big Dodge has some serious upgrades, but this is an Italian exotic that is focused solely on performance. Does the HPE1000 stand a chance?

Lamborghini Aventador

Race Number 1

The two cars line up and are flagged simultaneously to start. It is about as simple a drag race as you can get. But just seeing the two lined up next to each other is almost laughable. One looks like a missile and the other looks like. Well, it looks like a Dodge Durango. The flag is dropped and immediately the HPE1000 Dodge Durango jumps to a huge lead. Seriously, a huge lead, like not even close. Like the Lambo driver totally forgot there was a race going on. By the end of the run the Lamborghini is barely in the same frame. Total domination for the Dodge.

Drag race

Race Number 2

Clearly the exotic car needs a little help. To make things a little fairer, actually it makes things a little more unfair for the Dodge. No matter. For race number 2 the Dodge doesn’t start until the Aventador begins to move. Advantage Lambo here. Well, no, it is more of the same. Even getting the jump off the line the Aventador is completely walked within the first 50 feet. It is not even a race. If it was not for the unmistakable sound of the roaring V12 you would think someone replaced the engine with something from the Lamborghini tractor line. The HPE1000 Dodge Durango completely obliterates the much more expensive Lamborghini Aventador.

Overhead race

The Video

Words do not do this race justice. You just have to see it for yourself. Watch this video and try to comprehend just how fast this modified Durango is. Seeing is believing. And if you happen to own a Lamborghini Aventador be prepared to see a lot of HPE1000 Dodge Durango tail lights.
