Maserati Ghibli 334 Ultima, Levante V8 Ultima Debut as Final Farewell to the V8
Maserati Ghibli 334 Ultima and Levante V8 Ultima aim to send the V8 out with a bang by giving customers 572 hp in an ultra-limited package.
As is the case with most automotive brands these days, Maserati – which is part of the Stellantis family, along with Dodge – is aiming to go all-electric in the coming years, which means that its ICE-powered lineup is nearing the end of the line. Unfortunately, this also spells the end for the brand’s V8 engine, which has already disappeared from the GranTurismo, as the all-new version of that sleek coupe ditched it for either a V6 or EV powertrain when it debuted last fall. Now, the brand has revealed two new models that will celebrate the official demise of its V8 engine in general – the Maserati Ghibli 334 Ultima and Levante V8 Ultima.
The Maserati Ghibli 334 Ultima promises to be quite the performer, given the model’s light weight and small size, along with the 572 horsepower output from its twin-turbocharged motor, which Maserati failed to provide any specifics about other than its rating in that regard – though it’s probably the same 3.8-liter unit present in the Trofeo. The “334” part of the Maserati Ghibli 334 Ultima name refers to the car’s top speed of 334 kilometers per hour, or 208 mph, which would make it the fastest sedan in the world right now.
Thanks to weight savings measures, a carbon-fiber rear spoiler front bumper, side-view mirrors, window pillars, and door handles, and 21-inch wheels wrapped with new, unspecified tires, the Ghibli 334 Ultima is capable of doing 0-60 in 3.9 seconds, too. On the outside, the special model is finished in a shade of blue called Scià di Persia, which is similar to the color used on the first road-going Maserati with V8 power – the 1959 5000 GT.
Joining the Maserati Ghibli 334 Ultima in this farewell to the V8 celebration is the Levante V8 Ultima, packing the same exact engine, albeit in crossover form. It too features carbon fiber front and rear bumpers and side skirts, along with 22-inch wheels, and a choice of two exterior colors – Nero Assoluto or Blu Royale. No matter which model one chooses, Maserati will only build 103 units of each of these special V8-powered vehicles starting in Q4 of this year, though pricing for each has yet to be announced.
