Renault-Nissan Alliance Seeks Possible FCA Merger

Planned expanded alliance would help FCA expand its reach and better compete against Toyota and Volkswagen.
A few years ago, the late FCA CEO, Sergio Marchionne sought to strengthen his company by merging with another, most famously with General Motors. GM, of course, turned Marchionne down. In more recent times, current CEO Mike Manley spoke with French automaker PSA (Peugeot, Citroen, and GM cast-offs Opel and Vauxhall) about linking up.
According to CarBuzz, another European automaker has its eyes set on FCA: the Renault-Nissan Alliance.

The alliance, which also includes Mitsubishi, has been working getting its own act together in the wake of former CEO Carlos Ghosn, who was arrested in Japan in late 2018, and charged with a number of financial crimes. After that is settled, though, the Franco-Japanese conglomerate want to bring the Italo-American company into the fold.

The main goal of such a merger would to be to better fend-off the likes of Toyota and Volkswagen Group. In turn, tons of cost savings and potential new markets for both sides of the new alliance would be in the offing. There hasn’t been much movement on FCA’s end, though, and even if there have been talks between the two sides, no one is talking. That said, it would be cool to see Dodge Charger Hellcat Widebodys stretch their claws on the Autobahn.
