Rust Bucket Charger

But it’s Not All Bad News!

But it’s not all bad news — especially under the bonnet. The original 383-cube V8 and four-on-the-floor manual gearbox as well as this Charger’s special equipment Sure-grip differential are all still in place. And inside, the rotten front sats may not be as big an issue as the missing rear bench. But the seat belts remain intact, the original radio is still there and the ignition key is also in place.

The ’68 and ’69 Dodge Charger was of course immortalised by so many a movie chase, not least of all General Lee and the bad guys who so remorselessly pursued Steve McQueen and his Mustang 390 GT through San Francisco in Bullitt. All of that conspires to a decent ‘Fair’ ’68 Charger costing around $26,000 on the US market today.

Are Charger Values Rising?

This rust bucket is however clearly in Poor condition category. Yet it made $37,900 on eBay! Clearly a junk car — especially a matching numbers machine like this — must have a little more allure. Spares are of course easy to obtain and a restoration of this magnitude would require a fair amount of money and patience to complete. All of which shoves it way beyond that 27-grand ‘Fair’ selling point. The mind boggles!

Junk or not, at that price this sale may very well have a quite positive effect on big body Dodge Charger pricing.
