Salvaged Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat Gets Rebuilt in Just One Day
Wrecked Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat surfaced at auction looking rather sad, but after some hard work, it’s even better than new.
The Dodge Durango is quite literally the last of its kind, a vehicle powered by the supercharged 6.2-liter Hellcat V8 that was once present in a wide array of vehicles. All of those other models have since gone extinct, but the Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat continues to somehow defy the odds, even amid Stellantis’ previous desire (under now-former CEO Carlos Tavares) to transition to smaller displacement engines and electric power. Thus, one could make the argument that any Durango Hellcat is worth saving, and that makes this video from the goonzsquad well worth the watch.
The folks behind that YouTube channel recently found this 2021 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat at a local auction in dire straits, as we can see here – it was involved in a pretty bad front end collision, leaving that part of the vehicle heavily damaged.
It was being sold by the insurance company as a result, and with fees included, it wound up selling for $32,000 in this sad state. Unfortunately, a quick inspection reveals that things might be worse than originally thought, and the SUV doesn’t run and drive perfectly as advertised, either.
Luckily, the guys at goonzsquad rebuild cars for a living, so they also had a bunch of parts laying around from previous builds that utilize similar components. This helps out in places like the suspension, but they’ve also ordered up a bunch of cool upgrades for the Durango Hellcat. That list includes a full widebody kit to transform its looks, while a set of aftermarket wheels are on order as well. However, there are several delays along the way, which include having to repair some frame damage.
Unfortunately, not all of the parts arrive in time for goonzsquad to finish their Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat build in less than 18 hours, which is their previous record, but they do wind up getting the widebody kit installed and the whole SUV painted its fresh shade of red.
In a followup video, we get to see the build come to completion, however, and it’s a rather satisfying result – to the point where its previous owner wants it back. That person happens to be comedian Desi Banks, who has millions of followers on social media, but for now at least, goonzsquad has no plans to part ways with its reborn Durango SRT Hellcat.
