SnowPAR: Challenger & Chrysler 300C Tackle Icy Wisconsin Autocross

Who says that Mopar products are only good on the drag strip? These drivers tackle the snow like a pro at Road America!

You’ve registered for the racing event. You’ve passed tech. Your helmet is on and you’re in line waiting for your turn. About every 30 seconds a car is released. Now its your turn. You wait for the signal to go, launch hard… and prepare for snow. If at first you thought we were describing a day at the drag strip, that was the intention. But alas, these MOPAR cars aren’t at the strip, as you can surmise, they are doing some snow autocross at Road America.

In terms of hardware these drivers were running, don’t go looking to this article to see a unique twin turbo setup or a big V8 with a blower. For what we can tell on the Challengers, they were stock. And the Chrysler 300 looks to have some bolt-ons. But just like the strip, traction is important. All three were running snow tires.

For the Mopar drivers, Arthur Brown piloted the black AWD 2012 300C, Kyle Stocks drove the RWD 2016 Dodge Challenger and above we have a mystery white Dodge. The number on the window comes back to Dennis Lenius driving an Inifniti according to timing and scoring. We trust our eyes better. And an honorable mention goes to Todd Petersen who entered a 2005 Dodge Neon. Proof you can have fun in any MOPAR.

Fox Valley Sports Car Club set up their usual autocross equipment at Road America, and it made for a snow covered fun event. Part of which used the track’s regular turns, and another course was set up on the go kart track. The one on the regular road course was quicker, and the go-kart track more technical and longer. Through the day, snow cleared and times were getting ever faster.

Adaptation to a clearing track brought out some clear winners in each class. Cars with a more sporting nature had the advantage, with top spots in RWD being secured by a Porsche 911 and Lotus Evora. Even so, if you asked the drivers,  they would tell you fun. And we bet you’ll see them back in February for round No. 2 of 3.
