Viper ACR Tears It Up At Stage Rally–Literally!

Watch this Dodge Viper ACR tear up the hills of Tasmania during the annual Targa Tasmania rally. Don’t worry; all the stages are paved!
Admit it; you cringed a little bit reading the title. Putting the word “rally” next to “Viper ACR’ is sure to cause some controversy. However, this isn’t your typical rally. While it is broken up into stages like a typical rally, you’ll find a distinct lack of dirt roads. In fact, this rally is entirely held on paved roads. As much as we must admit we’d love to see a Viper ACR soaring over a dirt road in the middle of the woods somewhere, that’ll have to come some other day. So instead, we get this equally enticing video of a Viper ACR tearing up the streets of Tasmania in the wet and dry. The Targa Tasmania touts that it is the biggest and hardest tarmac rally in the world.
Combining the technical courses with rain and a Viper can spell disaster for many people. Still, this video, posted to the official Targa Tasmania Youtube channel, shows that this driver knows what he is doing. Behind the wheel is Eddie Maguire, and beside him is his navigator Zak Brakey.
Despite less than stellar conditions, the Viper looks miraculously composed in the wet. However, something tells us it’s probably a lot more about the driver than it is about the car. Regardless, you should absolutely crank the volume and watch this video. If you’ve got speakers capable of letting you feel sound, we can’t think of a more appropriate time to use them. Let ‘er rip!

Planted under any conditions
As we mentioned before, the Viper looks remarkably composed. While that isn’t at all surprising when the stages are dry, watching the front end grip up and tear through a corner in the rain is pretty mind-blowing. This definitely has to be chalked up to the driver knowing the limits of the car. Regardless of what rubber is wrapped around the wheels and all the downforce created by the ACR, any average Joe would have no problem messing up with this car in the rain.
The Targa Tasmania rally is not one to be taken lightly, either. In the 2021 event, which is where this footage is from, three individuals died in crashes over the span of the rally. Again, it is not an event to be taken lightly. Though tragic, the loss of life serves as a reminder of what everyone involved in motorsport is risking every time they get behind the wheel.

Maguire and Brakey went on to win the 2021 Targa Tasmania rally overall. Though it is a tarmac rally, there aren’t many opportunities to see a Dodge Viper ACR atop the list of rally finishers, let alone standing atop the podium.
