Default Multiple Cylinder Misfire

I own a 98 Avenger Sport, with the 2.5 V6. For an extended period of time now, I have had multiple cylinder misfire codes in the computer, and cannot seem to resolve them. The car is currently not even starting, but I'm afraid that after I fix what's keeping it from starting, the misfiring will still occur. Normally the car will run like a champ for 15-20 minutes, under load. Then it will start misfiring until it sits for an hour or so. I have replaced the plugs, wires, distributor, and gone through all the fuses.

I should probably note that the problem with it not starting at this time seems to be electrical rather than mechanical. A multimeter showed no current going to the fuel pump.

Sounds to me to be the crank angle sensor. It will tell the computer where the crank timing sits and the computer will then shoot out the fuel/injector/spark timing.

I will look into that, but I may have an update to the issue. A pair of relays were bad, and are what kept the car from starting, I got it running today, and road tested it until it started misfiring. I pulled the number 2 plug soon after parking it and noticed engine oil all over it. I haven't noticed any smoking from the tailpipe, so I don't think it's the rings. I had always let the car sit for a while before pulling the plugs on it before now, so I never really noticed it. What could cause it aside from piston rings and cylinder wall wear? PCV valve maybe?

scratch that idea. I'll try the sensor next.

Sounds good. Good thing you went with the relays first. It sounds like they made a difference but weren't alone in the issue.

Thanks for the tip, I replaced the sensor and all my troubles went away. The thing runs like a champ, and I gave the dealership a nastygram about it. They were trying to tell me it was my 130 dollar aftermarket distributor, they wanted to replace it with their 980 dollar one and wouldn't even look at anything beyond it.
