installing new speakers
i own a 2.0 96 avenger and recently decided to start putting in new speakers seeing as how the old ones were . . . well . . . old.
i was able to put in new 6x9's but was surprised at what i found, not only were the speakers bad, but they werent even 6x9's, it was a 6x9 piece of metal with a smaller speaker attached to it.
i was also able to install 6.5" speakers in the front, but had a hard time putting them in, i had to modify the thing that holds the speakers, but they are in and they work.
but, one question i do have is, how do i put new tweeters in the front? i bought some and hooked them up with the wires that were under the little caps, but they never worked, i checked to make sure the wires were hooked up but they still didnt work. is there something else i need to do? are the wires under the dash there even hooked up to anything?
right now i also have an aftermarket stereo, its better than stock but not great

RE: installing new speakers
when i got the car it had a pioneer stereo in it, stock 6x9's and 6.5's, no amp, and no tweeters, and it doesnt lok like ther ever were any in there, but there are still wires to hook up to speakers in the dash which are identical to the ones that were hooked up to the 6x9's, but on the back of my stereo there doesnt seem to be a corresponding wires for tweeters

RE: installing new speakers
component set = one pair of 6 1/2" midrange speakers , then one pair of tweeters, and a pair of crossovers ...
the crossover takes the front channel from the head unit then splits the frequency/power from the head unit and sends them to the speakers individually ...

RE: installing new speakers
the crossover components are designed to balance the impedance (resistance) of the speakers
if you connect the tweeters directly accross the door speakers that is a parrallel connection and it can lower the impedance (resistance) too much...
it could damage either the speakers or the head unit ...
