I am now elbow deep in the engine and tranny rebuild of my 95 Avenger and I thought I would share the pics. My new piston, and heater hoses will be in tomorrow and my father is taking Friday off to help with the reassembly so I hope to have it all back together and on the road by Sat afternoon. Found out that the ball joints on both sides are completly worn out so off to the dealer the next monday for the ball joint recall. Next fall I should be ready to repaint it and add some nice rims and then it will be done. After the rebuild I have figured out that the savings in gass over the Cummins will pay for the rebuild in less than a year.

The car has 178,000 and the reason for the rebuild is that the compression was 130 on 1-3 and 30 on 4, it is supposed to be 175 +- 25%. Found piston #4 cracked and the gaps in the rings were lined up on all the pistions. I didn't get a rebuild kit just ordered the parts from the local parts warehouse. Totoal cost including the transmission bearing kit is around $800. Didn't do any upgrades because this is my second car to drive for the milage because diesel fuel is 0.30 higher than gass now and the ole cummins gets around 17 city, plus the truck is my current hot rod and my wife says I only need one.
