I have a 1998 dodge avenger with the 2.0 i-4 a little while back it got a small knock at upper rpms and a week ago it started missing bad i changed the plugs and it ran perfect for a few days then started missing bad the check engine light came on and it was cylinder 2 missfire so i did a compression test and got 220psi on all cylinders accept 2 which was 175psi so i am mondering if anyone knows what the valve clearnce should be ant help is greatly appreciated oh and it has 176000 on the original motor thanks again
The 2.0 is a Distrubterless inginion so there is no cap and rotor to worry about. The spec for the compression is 175 +- 25% so if your getting 175 psi I doubt it is the valves. My guess would be the coil pack. The way the one on the 4 cyl works is that it fires opposing cylinders at the same time creating a wast spark in the one on the exausht stroke. With that said try switcing cyl 2 and 4 on the coil pack and see if the problem moves to cyl4. If so change the coil pack. On the 175 psi mine was running fine on 130 psi on the compression check.
well i checked the plugs and cleaned them then hooked up reader to ecu and got random cylinder misfire and primary coil malfunction so i need to replace my coil pack thanks for the help ill reply when i replace to see how it goes
