Default Trans on a 95 Avenger 2.5

I have a weird problem with my transmission. It will shift in all gears but I can only go 65 miles an hour tops. It used to go up to 100 hundred with no problem. Is it possible that my overdrive gear is gone?

Sounds like you lost you final drive gear. What color is your trans fluid and how many miles. My girls galant has the same prob shifts fine but red lines at 70mph fluid is black. Also when you hit the overdrive button it goes into neutral.

Great. I will check and see if it is the fuse. If not then it must be a bad gear in the transmission. I do have another question. My car has a odb II connector but does not talk to the computer. It also has a white one that I cannot find a tool to connect to it? I would like to pull the codes out of the computer? Any ideas?

Thanks

No check engine light. I just wanted to find the connector device so I could purchase a scan tool for it. The backlight fuse is good. So it sounds like my overdrive gear is gone. Which means the rest of the trans is next to follow.

Thanks for the help.

Default ECU connetors?

bad venge in the pic you can see the black odb II connetor but what is the white? I have my own odb II scan tool and it does not communicate with the ECU. Now my 2000 avenger odb II connector is the same and it works just fine. What is different between the 95 and 2k model?

1995 and 1996 Avengers need to have a two pig tail OBD 2 to talk to the car, because its has mits electronics. But I don't your is a transmission, but maybe exhaust. You said the trans shifts thru all gears, but you didn't say anything about slippng. So you could have a cat starting to plug up on you.

Thanks I will this weekend check the exhaust out and see if it is plugged. I did not think of that. No transmission is not slipping just wont go above 65 mph. I will give this a try.

Changing out the cat did the job. Thanks for the heads up. I will never forget that.
