Default Help with 98 Avenger

OK... here is my problem... a couple days ago it started to idle rough... ran fine though... today the service engine soon light flashed on and off... turned the car off... went and got a hair cut... started the car and it would die unless I keep my foot on the gas... but the service engine soon light was not on... got home took my foot off the gas and it stayed running... but idle a little rough... any help would be appreciated... thanks Rick

Also, if the light isn't on... will it store the codes

First thing FIRST , I'd run some Seafoam thru the intake system ... It could be just dirt in the intake tract

OK figured it out.... but now it idles a little smoother(still rough) and stalls when coming to stops... guess I'll give it a day or two... I took the cables off the battery and it reset the light.... hopefully it won't come back on and everything works out...

If the check engine light comes on but then goes off, it should still have a code in the memory. This should at least lead you in the direction if it is fuel or electrical.

If the check engine Light is flashing it is probably a misfire. you should check your spark plugs / Wires / Distributor.
